I want to get rid of Sky and goe to non pay, tv but I'm not sure what the best thing to wether it would be best to get a card off them and go freesat with sky and pay £10 per month for + features or buy a humax HDR is there many difference in the channels available to either?

You do not need to get a card from them, the card you have is fine.

Freesat from Sky has more channels like Pick TV and Sony TV, so if you need/want the extra channel then you need to pay Sky every month for the + features,
if you have a newish Sky HD box of any type then you can also hook it up to your Broadband and get Sky Anytime+

The list of channels on Freesat can be seen on Freesat's web site, or in a more straightforwar dlist form at Join Freesat.

If you pull your Sky card out the box you can work out what channels you will get with Freesat from Sky by scrolling trhough the channels - you won't be able to view channels that you will lose when unsubscribed.

As mentioned above, it's only the minority channels that are available on Sky that are not on Freesat. Think of the £10 monthly fee as paying for those channels (rather than for recording) as that's the only thing you'd get over and above a Freesat+ recorder if you bought one!

To me the HDR wins - payback less than two years - less if you factor in electricity. Plus you can rip out the Hard Disk from the sky box or sell it on Ebay.

With a FreesatfromSky card, you won't get standard Anytime+, as 95%+ of it is subscription content, although you may get BBC Iplayer (when launched), we are yet to see how that integrates, and should be available to all without subscription (as you pay the licence fee).

The OD channels add to the value of Freesat. Plus You can put HD clips and Trailers off of You Tube ( after processing them with some freeware available here) 0n to a stick in the USB socket. Watch out for the heavy Sales phone call from the closer when you end the contract.

avoid the humax, it's a slow and clunky box and will drive you insane compared to the slick Sky experience.

However problem is, they all will to a degree too, the Humax moreso. For as close to sky slickness, I would opt for the Samsung SMT-S7800

It's ALOT faster to operate in the menus, stats up quicker, and is a much never unit. It's initial software bugs have been mostly all ironed out now.

Try the Humax, it's a slick and funky box and will sooth your brain compared to the sick Sky experience.

I fully agree, and if you're feeling adept enough, install the media package and you can record 2 channels at once, watch a 3rd (provided it's on the same transponder as one of the others) whilst watching another recording on a computer in another room.
Try doing that with a Sky box!
