Can I pick your collective brains again.

A couple of years back, I had this problem & wondered if there had been any changes or equipment updates that somebody may know of?
I have a sky +HD decoder with full movie/sports package. I have recently bought a holiday home which has a std decoder in it. I have now put in a twin feed to take a sky+ HD decoder. Hypothetically (of course) - If I wanted to receive the full pack at the Hol home, apart from taking the decoder or another subscription, I guess I could take a multiroom subscription & borrow the decoder or there was a Humax decoder, I seem to remember, that would take the sky card but I think there was an issue with the EPG. Is there any new Kit I should be aware of?

If I understand what you have said correctly then no, multiroom boxes have to be connected to the same landline, this prevents you from using the additional box(es) elsewhere.

Nothing stopping you taking the box and using it at your holiday home when you are there, but if you want one there for others to use when you are not then a new subscription would be needed.

Deacon,
To be honest the telephone line is not connected on the main box. I am sure there was a decoder that read sky cards, was not 'paired' & allowed access to the package (premium in my case).?

You don't need a phone line connected to a single box if you are not using things like pay per view that would need it. If you have multiroom then both boxes must be connected so they can dial Sky regularly to confirm they are in the same house.

I haven't come across any box that can read Sky cards without pairing or anything like that. Not so sure that Sky would look kindly on such a box either.

For a few weeks a year I doubt there would be any problems just taking your home box to the holiday home and plugging it in to use while you are there. That would certainly be by far the simplest and cheapest option.

Sky don't enforce landline connections for single boxes, only when you take out a multiroom subscription. Sorry not aware of other stb's that read Sky cards.

Are you wanting the stb to be installed at the holiday home 24/7?

Doesn't need to be. It is only multiroom boxes/cards which need to be connected to same phoneline. To prevent somebody doing what you are intending to do - getting a second subscription for use in a second location without paying proper price for second subscription.

Whether the boxes and cards are paired or not is not the issue. If you want a second card with a Sky package subscription on it you will have to pay for that card - either full price or multiroom price. If you pay full price then you can put the card in whatever box you like - or don't bother even putting it in a Sky box. Sky couldn't care less - you're the one who's paying for it. If you go down the multiroom route then Sky will demand that both cards trigger a callback once a month to ensure that both boxes are connected to the same phoneline. If either box refuses to call back, you will be charged full price for the second card anyway,

You're probably thinking of the Dragon Cams which AFAIK don't work with the white sky cards

Thanks for everybody’s input, but this is ridiculous – I am paying for it & I can only be in one place at a time. I just don’t want to have the hassle of unplugging & taking with me all the time. I have done that recently & its just a pain.

So, to recap, multiroom will not work, there is no commercially available decoder that will give me premium package (that I pay for) elsewhere & the card will not work in another machine without paring (to get the full package) & paring to each machine twice a month on average is also a joke !!!

With all due respect that's not Sky's fault if you can't be bothered to unplug the box and take it with you, they are giving you the opportunity to take a single box where ever you like as there are no restrictions upon it. It's going to cost you nothing extra, just a few minutes of your time. I would have thought this was the perfect solution myself.

A long shot but do you have broadband at the holiday home? if you do then sky go is probably your best solution to travelling light as it were, or if you want to access the programs you've recorded then a slingbox would do the trick
