It's a strange coincidence, Louie's low mark for Jorgie, 6.5, is a two-thirds mark of the total of 10; as Nicky's mark of 4.0 for Suzanne was two-thirds out of 6.0: both marks created controversy. What happened next for Suzanne was the Music routine, on which her final victory was later based.

Yep it really does mirror Suzanne vs Chris and to be honest I feel that Chris should've won that year. I don't care who wins between Jorgie and Matthew because I like them both.

Very much so. Jorgie+Matt is the nearest match to Suzanne we have had since - in terms of being the total package who is the right build and can skate, act, dance and do the harder lifts. Suzanne was a bit older and more experienced as an actress and dancer . Matt isn't as capable as show Chris, let alone Ray - and Sam, Chris and Ray all had their own memorable routines which I haven't seen yet with Matt.

Not sure it should be like that, but whoever gets the best routines from now on should win. The problem is can T and D produce another music. The last two weeks they seem to have dropped Jorgie into a holding pattern with not much happening - which might be because they are saving some big moves for a strong series ending - they want someone else to win - or they have no ideas left.

I'd say not at all as either of them coming second won't be a shock.

Between Jorgie and Matt it has been difficult from the outset to predict which one will win. They have taken turns at the top of the leaderboard in almost equal measure, unlike Chris who prior to the final had only been knocked off the leaderboard once I believe*. In that respect, I'd say Jorgie and Matt are more comparable with Claire and Kyran.

The only similarity to Chris and Suzanne that I can see is regards the public vote. The popularity of both contestants is a complete unknown at the moment - whereas in Kyran's year when Claire found herself in the middle/bottom half of the leaderboard she ended up in the skate off both times. In their final, Kyran came from third place on final night to win the trophy!

With no consistent leader this year, hopefully the best on the night will get the voter's backing.


*Having checked wiki, Chris was second twice, but his high scores were considerably higher than Suzanne's all through the series. Each week he topped the leaderboard, he averaged 2 points more than her, whereas when she beat him to top, both times it was only by half a point.

Agreed - I think it's more the voting pattern that's similar. I suspect that whichever of Matt/Jorgie isn't top of the leaderboard this week will get through to the final on the public vote & if so that will mean they have both got to the final without facing a skate off. And of course the only other series where more than 1 contestant has got to the final having avoided the skate off is Suzanne/Chris in series 3.

Unfortunately, "best routines" seems to be defined by the whims of judge reaction. I'm sure T&D and everyone else involved thought they were giving Jorgie a good routine last week. Instead, they gave her one that resulted in a shockingly low score and a wave of anti-Jorgie opinion.

It's even worse than when they gave Suzanne too many lifts, because it's not at all clear how to solve or avoid the problem. Robin was the only judge who gave useful reasons (lack of technical content); Louis went by entirely subjective reaction, and Katarina went by the number of props.

I agree that a lot of the late vote does follow the judges, slavishly on some shows, but a great routine tends to be stand out and can get there on its own. Not sure whats left in the way of content still to use though, and the great routines tend to need the right music and story too - can Tand D pull that off. The other problem re the final is that if you can't use the SF routines again so soon, everyone will be stuck with something we have already seen - which will give Mathew something highly marked,if tedious, and Jorgie something with more wow factor but lower marked. There's nothing as good as previous winners and some runners had waiting to be reworked up.
