UK vs USA Round 1: Rita Ora vs Rihanna

Before I start I know there are two things people may nitpick. Yes Rita Ora is from Kosovo but she came to Britain before she was one and considers herself British. Secondly I also know that she is signed to Jay-Z's label so technically they are not being pitted against each other as direct competition as that wouldn't make business sense.

Since DJ Fresh's Hot Right Now got me hooked, my love affair with Rita Ora has gone from strength to strength. She has now released to radio both her UK single 'RIP' feat. Tinie Tempah and US single 'How We Do (Party)'. Also her official Vevo page (RitaOVEVO) has been created so I suspect the videos are not far behind. I think she has the right level of street cred with mainstream songs. She is gorgeous!!! And with Rihanna's current blonde hair one could be forgiven for mistaking them for each other in certain photos. With JAy-Z backing her I think Rita has HUGE potential and with two good songs from her debut that it more than Rihanna managed off her debut album.

Let's not forget the power of Rihanna. The conveyer belt of hits/albums, the incredible live shows, the love of her peers, youth, fashion cred etc. However she is teetering close to overexposure and the recent links with Chris Brown haven't helped her image. She is due a little break and it's almost like Roc Nation know this and are lining up her replacement for her time away from the spotlight. This bodes well for Rita who will be placed with the best producers and collaborators and get all the best performance spots for the next year or so! And it's bloody brilliant that she is British.

To quote Rita from her new track 'RIP' as it seems fitting to this context:
"R.I.P, to the girl you used to see
Her days are over, baby she's over"

Rihanna is West Indian.....Jay-Z moved her to the US when she was 16 to work on her music career.....she has learnt an American accent, but she most definitely isn't American.

Rita has a good voice, but R.I.P is not strong enough imo. The Drake original demo of the song is miles better and for a Chase and Status production it's seriously weak.
How We Do (Party) is very Katy Perry, I thought she would come out with something harder.

I think the battle is already one Rihanna Global superstar Rita Ora up and comer with not much to set her apart from the pack
