Which Smartphone and Plan?

Hello there
My contract with o2 is up at the end of May, and I'm beginning to think about which phone to go with, and whether to take out another contract, or just buy a phone and go PAYG.

Next year is my last year at uni, so I wouldn't need alot of minutes anymore, meaning I could go to a cheaper option than I'm on right now, which is £27 a month for 300 mins, ultd texts and 500mb internet. So I guess, I could go PAYG right ( anyone but o2 though - there signal is poor round where I live now).

Only thing is, I'm unsure which phone I would be interested to upgrade to, even buy if I go down the PAYG route ( and I know there will be new models out nearer the time, but nothing wrong with thinking early ).
I've got the Samsung Galaxy S, and while I appreciate I could keep the phone and go SimOnly, it dissapoints me that it won't be updating to ICS, so not really sure whether to stick with the phone, get a new ICS Android phone, or go to the iPhone - so many options, and have no idea what to do.... so thought I'd get some suggestions from you guys, since the majority know what you're talking about etc, probs more than me

Thanks

Why not go with giffgaff? 250 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited internet for £10 topup on pay as you go! Then buy a phone outright. Galaxy S2 maybe? iPhone 4S or my choice HTC One X (When available).

But check out giffgaff, runs on the same network as O2 but a lot cheaper

Ajh94 the OP said pretty early on in his post that he wants any network but O2 as their signal is no good where he lives!

Ryan, take a look at TalkMobile which runs on the Vodafone network. Some good sim-only deals on there. Either unlock your phone or maybe buy a Nokia Lumia 710 for £150.

Methinks this practice is quite standard worldwide and declared fraud in Korea.
"The FTC found that 209 models in total were marked up by mobile phone manufacturers when handed over to mobile service operators, "

Exactly why we have stupid RRP for everything here but at least there is some competitive at saner prices. £20 a month is fairly common S2 deal if you look carefully.

Where are you getting the Nokia from for that price ?

Vodafone. Online or in store (but needs a top up in store). A further £19.99 for an unlock code (but they forgot to take the money out of the credit for mine so the unlock was free).

Use topcashback if you order online.

Cheers for the replies everyone

I did look at Giffgaff, but the o2 signal just isn't good enough for me to want to continue using it through a MVNO.

I do like the iPhone - my Mum has one on her contract, but in terms of PAYG, I don't know whether I really want to fork out that much money, just for a phone :/

I'll have a little look at TalkMobile

Hmmm, hate having all these decisions
