I have an HTC Wildfire and if I take the battery out and replace it the phone reverts back to 1980 and the time to 00.01, do they have an internal battery and if so is it easy/hard to fit it..

Sounds like you have set the time to be manual. Try getting the time from the network.
No idea about internal battery, though there's not much room for one.

For a moment there, I thought you meant by design.
