i wonder how many people turned over after The Voice to watch The Masters (either Sky Sports or BBC2), which of course is for one week only.

That might explain why BGT ratings are down on the night.

Well that's a little bit unexpected. The BBC must be over the moon right now. Forget that the show beat Britain's Got Talent excluding +1 and that Talent only just pulled ahead including +1 the fact that The Voice was up again and over the Easter weekend is incredibly impressive.

LOL!

Yes, the audience crossover between the golf and BGT is likely to be massive, isn't it? As long as they watched BGT on record before 2am they would count in the figures...

It's all catch-up viewing though. But yeah, let's leave it there...

As people have spent the previous 2 Sundays trying to present a million strong BGT victory as a draw it's probably fair to say that a 100k Voice victory (that +1 overturns) is a draw too.

Exactly, the golf won't have affected it. BGT was down a bit on last week (although neck and neck with week 1. Because of Easter weekend. The Cowell shows always dip a little on Bank Holiday weekends (XF's August Bank Holiday show is always the lowest audition show of the series) so this is nothing new. Taken in isolation, BGT is doing very well and ITV should be very pleased as it's up on last year, but The Voice muddies the waters somewhat.

Why wouldn't golf fans also be BGT fans?

There will have been families last night where the golf fan had control of the remote because it was live sport.

BGT can be watched at any time without spoiling the result, and many will watch it today or tomorrow on PVR (and skip the ads). I think the golf finished around midnight so they would have been hard pressed to fit in a viewing of BGT before 2am.

What I find interesting is the number of people watching BGT on ITV1+1 - ie not many! In last weeks official stats, it's #3 on the main channel, #1 on the HD channel and nowhere to be seen on +1!

Perhaps it was all the EE fans who'd been out partying and BBQing on Friday deciding to catch up when Voice finished.

I've tweeted Mr Cowell btw, to congratulate him on having the 2nd biggest Saturday night show of the spring, to add to his #2 Saturday night show of the autumn. Will let you know if he replies....

BBC Pr done a fabulous job with The Voice. They have projected a strong 'anti-XF' brand, its all about the voice, the show doesnt ridicule people, its judged by actual singers, the contestants are not joke acts etc. Some people say thats not true but 99% of viewers have bought into it and the publicity machine has been in fifth gear ever since launch, with loads of interviews in The One Show on radio on BBC Breakfast. This is is a very polished operation from the PR department.

The scheduling has been a triumph too. What ITV should be worried about now is that The Voice UK's ratings last three weeks show that it can more than hold its own against BGT when head to head. The BBC has already extended the battle shows to 8.30pm in a couple of weeks' time, they will now not hesitate in extending the live shows to 9pm. You have to say, Beeb has played this one brilliantly. I expect loads of articles throughout the week about The Voice's triumph and therell be a few readers who have never seen the show thinking to themselves "oh i aint seen this yet, i gotta check it out" helping the ratings to go up once again next week.

Live sport could be part of a bigger set of distractions that contributed to BGT's fall, but in isolation it'd be a drop in the ocean as far as these numbers go. But it was Easter weekend, and I'm sure many families, for example, sat down to watch a film together at some point in the evening. It was good thinking then by the BBC to schedule a Shrek film either side of The Voice (the second airing on BBC Three at around 9pm).

Ha so overnights are irrelevant unless it gives you anti-ITV ammo... Lol this is why nobody really takes you seriously anymore.

Don't think the actual figures have been posted yet:

Quote:
“Elisa Roche
The gap between the two Sat night TV titans is closing in. #TheVoiceUk boasted 10m viewers (v 6.2m on #BGT )during the 20 minute overlap”

So The Voice higher for it than last week.
Wouldn't have hurt the average!

Don't be a cretin. The smilies denote that even I'm not taking myself seriously!

It has been a very organised PR effort from the BBC, making use of the many available channels to them. Having simultaneous slots on the eve of launch on BBC One Breakfast and both the BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 2 breakfast shows alone underlined that they really meant business, easily thwarting ITV's promotional efforts.

Parallel to that ITV's dirty tactics such as their attempts to rubbish The Voice on Daybreak in the week represented a new low for the broadcaster. Sour grapes sprang to mind. But Daybreak's pitifully low audience figures ensured this bias was not exposed to anyone but hardcore ITV viewers who wouldn't watch anything else anyway.

I do feel the momentum is with The Voice now, but the battle stages could throw a spanner in the works so we'll see what happens.

Fantastic for The Voice. Cannot wait to see how ITV try to spin this. They spent all last Monday's Daybreak and This Morning saying how BGT got higher ratings than The Voice and more or less implied The Voice was flopping!

Super rating for The Voice, we can debate whether it beat Britain's Got Talent or not, but the fact that we're having this debate three episodes in says something. Three episodes and The Voice is already level with Britain's Got Talent. Whether it will be like that, next week, who knows. I also find Britain's Got Talent's ratings odd.

Why is it the ratings are higher when the percentage it clashes with The Voice is higher?

- 24/03 - 9.43m (39.2%) -> 25% clashed with The Voice
- 31/03 - 10.28m (41.3%) -> 31% clashed with The Voice
- 07/04 - 9.4m -> 27% clashed with The Voice

Doesn't make sense, both of its poorer ratings have been for the longer rated episodes, ie. those that have clashed with The Voice for a lesser amount of time. Also:

Britain's Got Talent
Audience peak of 11.9m for #BGT; averaged 9.6m across the show (inc+1) <- (Many of whom tweeted they HAD been "in that situation.")
10:11 AM - 8 Apr 12

Nice try, but it was ITV that orchestrated the clash with The Voice. We wouldn't be having this discussion if BGT began at 20:20. Last night, its average from 20:20 to 21:15 was ~10.6 million.

The head-to-head gap (3.7m) was probably bigger than usual because ITV1 had 2 sets of ad breaks in the first 20 minutes of BGT last night (20.00-20.03 and 20.13-20.17) which dragged down the average. In the previous two episodes, there was just one set of ad breaks in the first 20-minutes to drag down the average.

The interesting thing with The Voice is that if the final 20-minutes hadn't been up against BGT, it'd have probably averaged about 9.7m overall and peaked at 11m! It really is a beast and has built itself up to a position now, that even if it loses viewers during the battle/live stages of the show (like what's happened in other countries), it'll still be pulling in high numbers. I'm not so sure it'll lose many viewers anyway, especially as one of the battle round episodes is on a Sunday when total TV viewing is normally even higher than Saturdays.

The ITV1+1 Barb chart has been messed up for the last month with quite a lot of entries missing. I suspect when Mike Teevee does his 6-week amendments, BGT will appear weekly in the +1 chart with officials around 500-700k. The first BGT episode had a consolidated +1 audience of 700k and yesterday's episode had an overnight +1 figure of 500k.

Wife watched The Voice off air. Masters recorded from 8pm on Sky. When Voice finished, caught up with golf and then went live through to the end (wife likes golf too!!).

Because of clash, couldn't record BGT, so searched Digiguide and found today's early afternoon showing which will be recorded to view this evening, before the golf starts.

Just noticed the BGT rerun on ITV2 is on really early this week (4.15pm). That won't help matters. The Voice reruns at the usual time of 7pm, which incidentally is also when the Formula 1 highlights used to go out on BBC Three, but we won't go there!

Last night's peaks - 10.7 million for #thevoiceuk versus 11.3 million for #bgt. Narrows the gap quite some way.

#thevoiceuk actually BEAT #BGT for average audience. 9.54m watched it compared to 9.43m (tape-checked and exc +1) for BGT.

Margin between The Voice UK (9.54m and 10.68m peak)) and Britain's Got Talent (9.62m and 11.85m peak - full slot & inc +1) narrows. Still both TV giants.

#LemonAid debuts with 3.4m (with +1). Very close #BGT vs #TheVoiceUK

I can honestly say I wasn't expecting The Voice to rise and Britain's Got Talent to drop. I expected people getting away for Easter to hit them both. The Voice has been helped by good word of mouth and Saturdays being so so weather wise. Much easier for it to build an audience when viewers are actually around.
