I remember that final series of Telly Addicts. It was unrecognisable from the previous one, and probably no coincidence it was delayed by six months before transmission.

They may as well drop the omnibus if they're going to show it in such a silly slot.

Here's how BBC1 rated in the Friday 11.30-01.25 slot the previous few weeks:

The EE omnibus rated probably about 60% of what BBC1 normally gets in that slot.

Trouble is the BBC didn't mention the Move
People seemed by the fact it was actually on Friday Night. This week it's on after 12 also

What channels actually do well late night? It strikes me the main channels go downhill quite rapidly after half 10-ish. Is it just the youth channels BBC3/E4 that gets a boost? I'm quite intrigued.

Telly Addicts didn't need to change. Why they gave it such a radical revamp is something I still don't understand. They ruined the show.

I'm not sure in general but just choosing a normal working day like last Monday, for example, between 23:00-01:00 here are what the main channels had:

You're right, BBC3 does seem to do very well at late-night.

Also factor in that there were about 25 episodes per series, back in the days when TV had proper seasons, it would start just as the nights started to draw in and end when the nights came light again.

It is unheard of thesedays for a show to be on air for many weeks each side of Christmas.

After such a promising start, The Voice of Americas ratings have been going down last few weeks and another Monday low yesterday of 3.9 [10.4m]. This is less than 4.6 [12.3m] season ones 2nd live performance show had and less than X Factor USAs 2nd live performance show audience of 4.3 [12m].

This is not good to see. The question NBC must be asking is the lower ratings due to tough competition from other networks or is the format already running out of steam? Hopefully its cos of the competition, CBS were back to showing originals last night of their very popular sitcoms.

As for Dancing with the Stars, its doing terrible with young adults.

Thanks rzt. And quite an even spread between the main younger skewing channels - the terrestrials have a massive drop off whilst the digital channels only see small drop-offs. I'm sure Family Guy especially does wonders for BBC3 at that time.

Yes, in that way, things such as Noel's House Party and Blind Date have never really been replaced.

X Factor is over by mid-December, and Strictly only goes on until Christmas. In the 1990s, it would have seemed amazing to think BBC One and ITV1 would have no big Saturday night shows in January, February, March.

US Ratings Monday April 9

'Super Monday' continues for NBC as they take another primetime Monday victory but with CBS back in originals it was the closest contest to date.

The Voice continued to lose ground dropping another two tenths week-on-week. The speculation and reasons as to why can fill pages and pages. At 10PM Smash held steady. Over on ABC the other two-hour reality monster was steady week-on-week and at 10PM a repeat of Scandal's pilot (which debuted on Thursday last week) replaced Castle. We'll see if the repeat screening has the desired effect Friday afternoon.

CBS returned to originals with How I Met Your Mother and 2 Broke Girls both dropping a tenth to season lows. Two and a Half Men was at a series low at 9PM (the Monday block suddenly needs a new flagship – could that put the stoppers on a 2 hour Thursday block?). Mike & Molly and Hawaii Five-0 both jumped a tenth.

After things picked up a little last week Fox's Monday night woes look to be on the horizon once more. Bones dropped four tenths and House was down two tenths. On the plus side both kept their head above a 2.

The CW line-up was steady vs. their last original airings about six years ago.

Poor rating for the slot - fair enough people may not have known it was on though. When Graham Norton is back on supplying it with a 3.5m lead-in it may also go up. Still I would prefer a late night film.

Some good news for Sky Atlantic – HBO have picked up a third season of Game of Thrones.

Beats me, too, as this is when such ratings juggernauts as The Two Ronnies and Game for a Laugh used to be shown. ITV1 seems to go into a wind down between TXF and BGT and BBC One isn't much more lively. However, the interlude between the Cowell shows does give Casualty a boost in the ratings.

The general lack of variety in the big Saturday night shows (and attempts at them) probably plays a role in that. You need to have a little bit of breathing room between the big phone vote led talent shows.

Looking at BARB, the first Episode of Once Upon A Time got 2.94m when you add +1, and it was their top programme on both channels...

The trouble is though they don't want to spend any money at 6pm now, so it'll be plenty of Pointless Celebrities and the like I'm sure. I suspect the real reason Total Wipeout has been dumped is that the BBC want to concentrate their Saturday budget on later in the evening.

Not sure how costly the repeat fees would be in comparison to cheap quiz show filler but always thought rerunning Doctor Who, Merlin and even Robin Hood in that 5.30pm slot would be worth while.


It'll be interesting to see how the Sky F1 figures are affected by the race also being on BBC1 this year. (Although obviously out of protest for the deal no F1 fans will be watching either!)

Although the same can be said I suspect for some of the biggest stars of the last 50 years Paul O'Grady does have somewhat of a reputation which is perhaps the reason he's not getting new projects.

It's probably less than they thought though given the nature of the marketing and the spot they secured during Britain's Got Talent. It's fair to say high-profile imports normally start higher than that on C5. The Mentalist, which launched in the same week three years ago, premiered to over 4 million viewers. FlashForward, another ABC show, also debuted to over 4m later that year. This was probably their biggest new acquisition since then.

I dunno what put people off but maybe it's just not as accessible as those shows, the constant switching backwards and forwards between the two time periods won't be for everyone and I guess UK viewers are not as sold on this current craze for fairytales. I also wonder whether advertising it as from the writers of Lost worked against it rather than in its favour!

Hopefully it will stabilise soon. It has made a big difference to their fortunes in a difficult slot so far but the drop on Sunday was a lot bigger than expected. I can see why they acquired Once Upon a Time but it was definitely a risk and until the numbers stabilise it's difficult to say whether or not it's paid off.

Time for the CW to call it a day?
