from the before mentioned industry bible

the bits in bold are the important parts, that mean this isnt confirmed.

I know, but it's still an inside joke of sorts. I think TV Burp has been missing a few 'in the know' asides of late if that makes sense.

True Blood had the exact same issue. For the first couple of years everyone was desperately trying to convince themselves it was a great piece of television but however you slice it, it just isn't. And that's fine not everything has to be that.

To deal with some of your other points

Game of Thrones averaged 8.3 million over multiple airings and on demand viewing. That sounds impressive but both True Blood and Boardwalk Empire are averaging more than 10 million by the same metric and the utterly terrible Entourage was pulling similar figures to Thrones (although it was down to 7-8 million for its final season).

I don't care about its first week DVD sales. They aren't particularly illuminating beyond telling us that Game of Thrones fans are a bit obsessive and I already knew that. More important are how the weeks to come do.”

Game of Thrones is entertaining but it's not a masterpiece, I think it'll get an increase this year and average 3-4m.

Showtime and Starz have proven that you don't need lots of money to make quality television. It's ironic that True Blood is such a big hit as it's probably cheap to produce in comparison to Boardwalk and GoT and also rates better and sell more DVDs.

Nope. Fair chance though that it will be coming back for more now if Harry is keen to do more as that looked to be the main stumbling block previously.

I wonder if Harry will use TV Burp as a bargaining tool to try and get a few more programming ideas at least piloted?

The Walking Dead is definetly a phenomenon, given that AMC produces it, they're making money from it. I hope Channel 5 gives it a nice slot and promotion when it returns there, think it should air either after Once Upon a Time or Mondays.

I started off treating it as a joke, then got more and more serious. I'm sorry, not quite sure what came over me there. I got over it...after three hours.

RTR syndrome.

I think I might stay out of this thread on Sunday - it could be a warzone.

That's just a guesstimate based on past performances probably. It's the same figure quoted in this morning's Sun.

And had 10.2m for 7.30pm and 10.3m for 8.30pm. That's with ITV+1. Scott & Bailey had 6.6m with +1.

S&B slipping back a bit then week on week. Should take a knock when BBC1 offers something competitive.

I see there is a predictable twitter storm about Dennis Waterman's supposed wife beating comments to Piers Morgan. I'm sure the ITV PR machine would not be in full flow if he was the star of a 10m rated ITV1 drama....

Better for all of these, moving in the right direction.

That'll be Silent Witness returning for its 15th series in two weeks time.

Very good ratings for all 3 soaps last night, with Corrie's big 8:30pm episode and EastEnders' 8pm episode up 1 million week-on-week.

Comfortably above 40% share for both Corrie's.... Excellent ratings.

I'll wait for Roscoe to come along later with his Tuesday morning EE vs EF comparison. I still can't find the Ratings Thread abacus.

Perhaps George melted it trying to calculate the cost of all the expensive sport on the BBC on Saturday afternoon...

Now sure I'm overly impressed with Eastenders figure considering it was the murder of one of its best known characters, although it was on against the University Challenge final on BBC2.

I didn't realise he was the star of a 10m rated drama at all. New Tricks certainly has never hit 10m in the official ratings.

There's lots of coverage of it though - Life Stories seems to be generating quite a bit of discussion this time round as it hasn't even started airing yet.
