What times were the peaks?

#TheVoiceUK was the highest rating show for the whole of its slot (7-8.20pm) #BBC1

Great launch figures for The Voice. Higher than I expected. Now they have to build on it week by week once word of mouth starts.

Great figures for BGT as well. I wonder if The Voice actually boosted it?

As in both sides will be very happy with those figures.

Not a surprise. Looks like ITV shot themselves in the foot to an extent as it seems like BGT could have been up on last year's launch (inc +1) had it started at 8:20pm. On the other hand they would have had to shift Take Me Out which would have been slaughtered by The Voice so swings and roundabouts so I guess they acted in the best interests of the whole night.

That looks like quite a strong launch for BGT, cracking peak when you include +1.

Lots for both sides to be very pleased about this morning.

Agreed. I am wondering how The Voice in Australia will do. The UK had an outstanding debut (esp. against BGT) and the French version is enjoying constant strong numbers for TF1.

I think it might do well for Nine, but I have an inclining feeling it might have done better had it aired on Seven. Either way, Nine should improve on their numbers with The Voice, the return of The Block and Celebrity Apprentice, in the next few months.

The Voice UK launched with 8.42m (37.61%) / 9.82m peak.

BGT returned with 9.43m (39.16%) /11.5m peak. BGT got another 567k on ITV1+1.

Previous BGT launch overnights:

2007- 4.9m
2008- 8.8m
2009- 10.5m
2010- 10.6m
2011- 10.0m/10.4m (exc/inc +1)
2012- 9.4m/10.0m (exc/inc +1)

Thanks RZT.

Do you have the figures for the 20 mins they clashed?

So BGT averaged 10m including +1. I think ITV wil be pretty happy with that. Last year it was 10.4m and an 11.6m peak so considering the 20 minute clash and slightly shorter running time it did really well last night. It would have probably been around the 10.5m mark without the TV clash, which considering everything that's happened over the last 12 months is a great result. Hopefully they'll see sense and keep it away from The Voice in future though.

#TheVoiceUK secured 8.96m viewers between 8pm and 8.20pm, comfortably beating #BGT, which entertained 6.56m over the same period.

It means BGT averaged 10.47m after the clash had finished for the remainder of the episode.

Unsurprising. Why would people stop watching an 80 minute show 60 mins in. ITV need to make sure there are no more clashes in future.

9.1m viewers saw the final five mins of #TheVoiceUK - 3m more than the audience for any other channel at the same time.
----------------------------------
These 20 minute overlaps for BGT will be denting it in future episodes, especially with the shorter run-times.

Is that last tweet from Hodges? Hilarious that he's taken 5 minutes and compared them to an advert break on ITV. Agree about the overlaps, ITV should avoid another one for week 3. The problem is that Take Me Out is 90 mins that night as its the last in the series and they might think that 10:50pm is too late for it to finish.

Although it's not as straight forward as that, as the BBC might then push back The Voice later again (especially with the clocks going forward) forcing BGT to move later again etc etc.

If you're watching the debut of Sunday Brunch now on C4, you'd think you were still watching Something For The Weekend. Tim Lovejoy's presenting skills haven't changed...
Tim: "Did you watch the TV last night?"
Stacey Solomon "Yeah I did..."
Tim "So a huge night of TV last night..."

I enjoyed The Voice, and suspect they kept their strongest moments for the 20 minute clash with BGT (the bloke who did the Elton John song and had the judges scrapping over him, the girl who didn't get picked even though her boyfriend was successful, and the woman who sang the Jessie J song).

There's a limit to how late they can go with The Voice though as they have to fit everything in before 10:30pm for Match of The Day.

Can't help but think although BGT edged TV, BBC One will be very pleased given that if you go 11 months back (not 12 Simon C!), BBC One's primetime share would be a fair bit lower with no standout show.

Rzt - do you have ITV and BBC One's primetime shares for the 2011 BGT launch?

#TakeMeOut averages 4.7m (with +1)

#MPD returns with 1.3m (with +1)

Decent start for The Voice. But given the amount of publicity it's had over the last few weeks (I can't remember the last time BBC1 ran as many ads for a show), it's not surprising really. The real test will be if it can hold on to those numbers.
