Does anyone have a rating figure for the Sports Relief Mile show the BBC ran yesterday afternoon? It's the first time it's been covered in any detail on TV and I wondered if there was any audience for it given the likely viewers were probably out there actually running it

Homeland is one of the few shows C4 have to be cheery about at the minute. It's holding up very well. Much better than I thought it would. It helps that it's a great show.

Yep, and the thing about that Sunday 8pm slot is, it's not a bad slot. Lots of people watching TV, looking for something good to take their minds off work the next day. And as we've seen only recently, pre-watershed drama can be one of the most popular genres at that time, and there is nothing that meets that criteria airing on Sundays at the moment.
P.S. The Sun reporting today (just under the pic of Noel jumping a shark) that Deal or No Deal will have celebrity specials from Easter including Harry Hill, McFly and Noel himself playing with the show airing in primetime. This being C4 though rather than stick it on a Sunday night where there is sod all at the moment they're planning to put it on Saturdays - and knowing C4 they'll managed to have it clash with both The Voice and BGT. |

Don't forget Sherlock too. If they do three weeks of Sherlock followed by 8 weeks of CTM at the same time as DOI that's pretty much the whole series of DOI in very serious trouble... I think it needs to be moved to a very different slot if it's got any hope of going on beyond next year.

The thing about Deal or No Deal is, whilst it got boring for the more discerning viewer about 5 years ago, it's still massively popular and regularly Channel 4's best performer of the day in terms of audience share. I suspect these will do well as you can't normally go wrong with a celebrity special, but they'll have to be careful on Saturday nights to avoid the various obstacles that you've highlighted. |

I don't think Sherlock will be there as they start filming in 2013.

I was surprised they axed it in the first place, the last series was getting 4.5-5m on Saturdays in early 2010 so it's a decent rating show. I guess that it'll air late Summer/early Autumn (perhaps in the Sunday 7pm slot). ITV are recording more Celebrity Chase in May according to Lost In TV so that'll probably end up in the Summer. I notice they're running repeats of Celebrity Millionaire in the Tuesday 8pm slot from next week - seems a very bizarre thing to do although I'm sure they won't do any worse than some of the other stuff they've tried there. They're probably hoping viewers forgetg they've seen them before!

Knowing Channel 4 if it's a success they'll recomission them with a new series returning every 5 weeks, on top of the usual daytime episodes! |

1.3m for Alcatraz?
My drink nearly ended up over my keyboard when I saw that one. Including repeats and +1, well over 2 million watched the pilot, which is amazing. As for last night, despite ITV winning the night, those are some very underwhelmimg ratings. I think the fact the clocks altered affected the DoI Final. It is abit silly have the Final on this day. Maybe next year they should bring it forward a week to avoid this, but a 7.1m average (exc. +1) is very bad indeed. I'm not sure how this can be reversed to be honest. The whole series averaged 6.7m (inc. +1: 6.9m). Its probably fair to say no one saw that coming! As for Titanic, abit of a disaster really. With 3 weeks(?) of promotion only 6.9m bothered to tune in for the first episode. And looking at the breakdown, its not surprising it fell so much. It was bloody awful. Why would they big up something so much only for it be fail like this? Red or Black springs to mind. It was a total disappointment. Homeland held up remarkably well. I haven't seen any episodes yet - I've got them all on the Sky+ and plan on watching them at a fairly fast pace once its ended. I hope its as good as people are suggesting. |

Yes, 1.3m is an amazing start for Alcatraz, its just a shame its not very good at all. A total borefest IMO. And with it dying in The States its close to cancellation anyway.
And thanks rzt for the region and demo breakdown - very interesting. I wonder where all the 65+ audience went from BBC1. |

I'm sure the weather had more to do with it rather than the clocks going back, it could have been cold & raining all day yesterday, last year it might have been.

You won't be disappointed. Probably a good way to do it actually as it's one of those shows that always leaves you wanting more and a week for the next episode seems too long. (see also 24, Dexter)

It shows in the table how they did by age range. The Voice UK was ever so slightly more popular among the 55+ whilst BGT lead the way in the under 55s.
Quote:
Quite a number of 65+ year olds went to All Star Family Fortunes, which averaged a decent 4m during 7-7.30pm as it's popular with that demo - 35% of ASFF's audience were aged 65+ which is high for an ITV1 LE show. Looks like younger skewing shows such as TV Burp were hit harder by The Voice than older skewing stuff like ASFF. I think that's the way ITV will have to find a decent counter audience against The Voice, trying to sweep up the older viewers. Keith Lemon's new show isn't going to do that though...
And that is why a clash doesn't help either. It's not like Strictly v X Factor with the latter appealing to younger viewers, so a clash doesn't dent X Factor that much. |
