If it had been in the very first ad break, then that wouldn't have been a good spot. But near the end of the third, anyone watching BGT directly after The Voice would have caught up with the live channel by then and so it will have been seen by a lot of people.

I agree with you. IMO unless you work for the BBC press office there's really no need for it.

The iPlayer rankings for the past week suggest that its already getting huge catch-up viewing. Hopefully we'll get to see those stats and given that all signs point toward episode one being a big iPlayer hit I can't see why the BBC or someone at The Voice wouldn't release them.


I disagree, I think tonight's show highlighted the strength of the blind auditions as a format point.

To be more accurate, Britain's Got Talent had 9.2m approx in the 20:00 hour last week.

- 24/03 - post 7 to 537 = 530 posts (60 minutes)
- 31/03 - post 15 to 526 = 511 posts (60 minutes)

Which works out to 8.87 million this week.

So my 'official' prediction:

Britain's Got Talent: 8.8 million
The Voice: 7.8 million

The weather gods were kind though Jake. It could have been worse had the very warm spell continued into this weekend.

Could Twitter's algorithms be to blame for #BGT not trending?

I must sadly say after all of my years hating talent shows I actually enjoyed the voice! I didn't see last weeks but I quite like it.

But then it got even worse because my wife turned it over to BGT and I enjoyed that as well!!!

I think I need a large dose of BBC Four to calm me down. Seriously though I thought the voice flowed well and they seemed to mix it up a bit to stop it becoming boring.

To be fair, both sides are equally guilty of it, there were countless BGT and X Factor fans in The Voice thread and this thread after the first episode trying to use any reason they could think of to write it off, usually by using criticisms you could level just as easily at BGT

I don't see why people can't either enjoy both or simply watch the one they like most and leave the other for those who like that like both or like that more.

Fair enough, but I do think some go overboard.

Expecting MOTD to rate higher than average tonight after today's dramatic football.

They do, but on both sides, I've not seen any more of it on one side than the other, not that, as I said, there should be any sides, it's just television.

That's very frustrating for Britain's Got Talent.

Other topics relating to the show were trending, just not bgt, so the show was still being as talked about as usual.

I think it is amazing in a world of multi Channel television that ITV1 and BBC One can still pull in these audiences. I know they are sadly decreasing but I predicted when On Digital launched in 98 that terrestrial TV will be finished by the end of the decade. I was quite brilliantly wrong.

I predict that Terrestrial TV will be dead in a decade! (Hopefully that won't ring true ether!)

God, this 'my show is better than your show' pissing contest really is so tedious.

For what it's worth I really enjoyed both tonight. The Voice was better than last week - it didn't feel like as much of a slog as it did last week and it has a confidence about it which you don't always get with new shows. BGT meanwhile is just so much better than last year in every single way. The judges are (much) better, the talent is stronger but most of all unlike last year where they went through the motions you can tell they've put real effort into it this year - the editing is a vast improvement and the whole show feels fresh again. It also showed tonight that next year they'd probably be better off just leaving it to David, Alesha and Simon as Amanda really isn't necessary any more (that may well have initially been the plan but sacking a pregnant woman is never going to go down well!).

Sorry Agent , Ive been overexcited about The Voices success, a bit too much I must admit! I;ll keep the Voice posts to a minimum from now on in this thread so its just regarding its ratings and not comparing to bgt.

There is a way of speed reading this forum............ if it hasn't got ratings data or request - ignore it....or at least don't respond to it, unless of course the information is useful to you.

No worries SamuelW, there's obviously nothing wrong with talking about The Voice and discussing its merits on this thread, and I certainly don't want to be seen as a 'self appointed mod' who is telling you what you can and cannot post, I just feel sometimes your posts do go a little overboard (in the nicest way possible).

The Voice is a great show and deserves every success. And I know a 'ratings war' inevitably makes things more exciting. But it's not set in stone that just because The Voice is a hit that the BGT is suddenly going to collapse and disappear. I concede a lot of this rivalry has been fueled by ITV's scheduling and that's fair enough. In ratings terms that is a legitimate discussion, but I think comparing the way shows are produced or how many 'good acts' they both had is for the most part irrelevant. They are still two very different shows and they both take a very different approach.

And I do think the competition is good. It's nice to have that on Saturday nights again outside of Strictly/X Factor.

BGT does get loads of mentions but never makes the trending list. Number of tweets seems roughly the same this week and last week while The Voice has a slight dip.

Now I like The Voice UK... butI also like Britain's Got Talent... but which is better...?

Though I love the maths involved in the episode thread numbers I'll be amazed if there's a 1m gap between Britain's Got Talent and The Voice in the former's favour. I think grahamzxy's figures are closer to the mark.
