Take Me Out is only overlapping with BGT for 3 weeks, probably due to BGT being scheduled earlier than usual, it's not as if they are being paired up (no pun intended) throughout the run like DOI & WAH are every year.

If it wasn't for the inclusion of "Make Bradford British" in that list I'd swear this was an April Fool's joke.........some of those shows sound beyond horrendous. Missing must be fraught with legal implications. I'm presuming they don't show up with cameras and muscle men 'and grab the kids in a dawn swoop in order to reunite them with families.

Rzt - looks like you were right re: ITV losing primetime due to shortened BGT. Is last night the 1st ever Saturday that BBC One has won primetime share when BGT is on?

BBC One has beaten ITV1 in the primetime shares a few times previously when BGT's been on. On Eurovision night last year (14/5/11), they had 33.8% to ITV1's 16.8%. In 2010, BBC1 beat ITV1 four Saturdays in a row when ITV1 were airing BGT between 24th April and 15th May 2010 - probably because The Prisoner tanked so much! Also in 2009, BBC1 beat ITV1 on Eurovision night (16/5/09: 30.9% v 22.7%).

Excellent ratings for both shows last night. At 9m you're definitely looking at a massive new hit for BBC1 and there's clear momentum with it now. And that followed the first episode - the second episode was a significant improvement, IMO. Next weekends ratings could be interesting. I do think there's a real chance we'll see The Voice getting one over one week but BGT is certainly putting up a fight.

If you'd told me that The Voice got 9m, I'd never have thought BGT would win the night by over 1m. I guess sometimes, even when we should know better, it's easy to be influenced a bit by the nonsense DS polls and PR work of SamuelW telling us all how nobody's ever going to watch BGT again! Considering the strength of opposition, shorter length and usual second week drop, ITV/Syco must be delighted with that number. But The Voice is still right on their tails. Picking up a nice +1 audience as well - as that channel grows it might not be long until ITV1+1 is beating the spin-off shows!

Take Me Out hasn't really benefitted from the BGT lead-in at all, in fact I think that's down on a bit on what it was getting. I still wonder if it might have provided some more effective opposition to The Voice - at the end of the day ITV need to be finding mid level players that can do a decent job against BBC1. With TV Burp gone (and past its peak anyway) Take Me Out looks to be the best option there. ASFF probably got rotten demos even if that 3.5m looks OK.


Except we don't know this at all. And all we've established is that overlapping with The Voice for 20 minutes is doing BGT more harm than its rival and that producers don't write the schedules.

The future of TV entertainment doesn't look to promising with those formats. It does seem to be drama that is thriving worldwide once again though at the moment - indeed probably everywhere except on the US networks who haven't had a great couple of years when it comes to new drama - but did reap the rewards a few years earlier.

Forgive my potentially dodgy maths here but based on the 7.6m for 2000-2020 and 10.3m average, BGT must have had about 11.5m (12m inc +1) for the part of the show that didn't clash with The Voice?

The average for the 20.20-21.05 bit for BGT was 11.0m. The 10.3m average figure is tape-checked and excludes the first five minutes (20.00-20.05) which had 5.5m which would've contributed to a full slot BGT average of 9.9m. Basically it was:

If I'd paid to go to Mipcom I'd be wanting a refund. Some of those ideas are hideous. The Body and Brain one maybe has some value depending on the exact format (although I'm sure something similar must have been done before). It's not going to be a big hit but it's the kind of thing that might play to 4m or so. Although tbh, I'm probably clutching at straws - it's a really bad batch of ideas! The Code sounds like it might be a a reworked version of The Bank Job.

ITV's "Please Marry My Boy" has been done already in the US as Momma's Boys for NBC. Produced by Ryan Seacrest, it wasn't successful.

Some awful sounding singing shows. The massage one must be a joke. And I'm not sure what to make of the dating show where contestants can't see each other but can make contact through latex!

The Beeb have got it right here. The Lottery taking the brunt of BGT and Casualty being spared the hurt and mopping up a few viewers. Primetime win is more than I expected and ITV havent made the most of the 11.00 million hanging around at the end of BGT.

Poor for Winter Wipeout(winter looking very out of place recently), these celeb specials were getting double that at one time, and I dont think they have innovated the course as best they could through the years. Maybe its right its going, though it will look a bit daft if the figures somehow become strong in the next series.

BBC1 must have had its strongest weekend performances this year for a long time. Shunting off Empire to monday has helped with that.

To be fair, BBC1's line-up isn't exactly inspired. Having their "tent-pole" on for 80 minutes is probably making the difference. ITV did alrght early evening relative to BBC1 and while slightly disapointing, Take Me Out probably delivered strong numbers where ITV needs them (16-34). But I'd agree that it's not really making use of that 11m at all.

Casualty always helps I guess - it's not a great number but it's solid anyway.

More than agree with that, but what they have got they have dished up in a logical fashion.

Personally I have a bit of a lonely bandwagon going on that the Beeb reduces the number of quizzes and tries something new in those slots-though I cant claim to know what.

Take out The Voice and Britain's Got Talent and the BBC1 & ITV1 line ups are very poor. I know it's partly to do with the big talent shows decimating their opposition but shows outside the clash aren't drawing people in either.

The Voice and Britain's Got Talent are the boost both channels needed.

Sticking with the subject of Take Me Out for a moment. I wonder if its getting hit harder than expected by The Voice driving viewers to +1 (and recordings) for Talent and of course the existence More Talent on ITV2.

Personally I think taken as a whole both the BBC1 and ITV1 schedules for Saturday night are horrible.

At this stage I'd be happy with them just airing a new (and more exciting) quiz in the slot. I have however been saying for months that I think they've dropped the ball by not making more of an effort with the schedule around The Voice.

And I can't help but wonder how different both ITV and BBC1's schedules would look right now if Doctor Who hadn't been delayed until the second half of the year. Would Who be airing at 6:15 (presumably providing a stronger lead-in for The Voice)? Would Who have stopped the BBC from pushing The Voice this early because they didn't want it airing at 6:15? Or would they have been really brave and gone with The Voice at 7 and Doctor Who after it? That might have given ITV a few more sleepless nights.

Take Me Out does well for ITV. It's not like it's going to get 6m every week. and it was up against Casualty that got almost 5m viewers

Remember when it all kicked off in Celebrity Big Brother and people ran to 5* after the main show to watch the live feed? That had a knock on effect for Channel 5 as less people watched the channel. I think Take Me Out could be suffering due to viewers going to ITV+1 to watch BGT. And Saturday night on BBC1/BBC2 is very uninspiring bar The Voice and Britain's Got Talent.

Watched The Voice for the first time last night - how on earth did they manage to spend £22 million on it even allowing for champagne in Tom Jones' dressing room ? Where did the money go ? It was a pretty standard set.

I'd have thought that if it was a clunker (or they thought it was) and they didn't want anyone to see it they'd have aired it opposite The Voice. That would be the easiest way to write off it being DOA without having to abandon this insane Keith Lemon obsession. Who at ITV believes this character is right for prime time ITV1? I still think if they want Lemon on ITV1 then they should give him a chat show and stick it on after the watershed. He can't possibly do worse than Jonathan Ross.

It gets bigger as it goes on. The competition grows as does the set and the studio. Live shows come from The George Lucas Stage at Elstree. This is just the audition stage. You ain't seen nothing yet! And talent costs are nothing compared to what ITV pays on The X Factor as a comparison.

Am pretty sure a large part of that figure is for the rights.
Not to mention the number of weeks its on then the running of the live shows.

A lot of that figure is unfair, especially since it hasn't flopped. The costs will be spread over a few years now the show is off the ground.

Which is a bit silly really, seeing as collectively the BBC probably have a much better, bigger name lineup if looked at as a whole. Good bit of business really there if the reported salaries are true.

In theory the only name on The X Factor who should be getting a big salary based on reputation is Barlow.
