Good weather - it was freezing where we are, had the heating on.

Those soap figures reinforce a few stereotypes about the core audiences for the big 3 - the EE viewers going away for the holiday weekend, the stay-at-home (apart from bingo night) Coro viewers.

Surprised Em rated so poorly on a non-working day against post match chatter on BBC1 which will have rated far less than The One Show.

Not surprised I'm the only one to mention this....

Yes I went down the pier yesterday and it was deserted there thought they would be many more people on the rides.
The channels should do good tonight.

When the weather does improve, it will release a fair bit of pent-up BBQ activity, depressing ratings further for those shows particularly affected by al fresco dining...

Coronation Street is about level with the same episodes last year. Emmerdale is actually up about 0.6m and EE is down 0.6m. Don't wanna let the facts get in the way though.....

So EE viewers were having a BBQ last night at 8pm, I wonder how the midnight omnibus rated? Decent for CS, Benidorm lost about 1/3 of CS viewers- so it does alienate some people.

EastEnders viewers were having BBQs in the cold and dark... clubbing at 8pm... shopping... caught up in traffic in London... any other excuses? Maybe many went to Church yesterday at 8pm too.

Boat Race rating will be interesting, some numpty decided to swim in the Thames, thus red flagging the race.

Good Friday ratings 2011:

Emmerdale: 5.93m

Corrie: 7.3m/6.99m.........went back up to 8.6m/8,8m on the Monday despite rating 5.6m on Easter Sunday

EE: 7.66m

Average for the year (Jan 12- Mar 12)
Corrie- 9.02m
down 540k on same period last year

EastEnders- 8.44m
down 570k on same period last year

Emmerdale- 7.33m
down 420k on same period last year

All soaps are down, only a 30k increase between the Big Two this year....

That's enough sarcastic comments about BBQs, thank you. Young people - to which EE's audience skews - go out on a Friday night - fact.

Eastenders last Good Friday had 7.7m but that was on the back of the baby swap storyline which had attracted 10.2m the previous Friday and Monday.

I have to say, Easter Holiday or no Easter Holiday, EE's ratings and audience share do seem low.

Emmerdale and the 7.30 Corrie both have slightly more viewers than last Friday but lower shares so actually more viewers watching TV in the 7pm hour than a week ago on a workday.

Have a feeling the Boat Race will pick up viewers towards the end due to word of mouth - absolute chaos:

- A restart because of a rogue swimmer in the water very nearly getting beheaded live on air
- Seconds into the restart Oxford lose an oar and the whole race is pointless, Cambridge win by miles and miles.
- One of Oxford's falls unconscious and rushed to hospital

Quite eventful.

There may have been good reasons for Eastenders figure, having said ratings which start with a 6 dont want to be visited too often. The tendency/worry for EE seems to be that the bigger audiences are polarised to the few really big events that occur, and parts of the audience dont seem to care about staying on for the day to day. Walford doesnt do ordinary interesting enough it seems.

The Boat Race was unbelievable, would have had a large peak if it was at tea-time.

I honestly don't think these wild generalisations based on cod-sociology have much basis in fact (that young people go out on a friday night vis a vis emmerdale will be down, the pier wasn't busy so the ratings will be higher etc etc) See them all the time on here. The only way to properly note the difference is by comparing ratings year on year.

To be honest, the weather is another one, the UK doesn't have a singular weather pattern so, just because it's a bit cold out where you are doesn't mean that equates to coldness throughout the UK.....

Anyone who has access to the ratings when they come in on a Sunday morning - If you could post the ratings for Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory - That would be great!

Yikes, I totally forgot about some of the horrendously low ratings for Good Friday last year, under 3 million for The One Show?! The weather must have been good...

Not a very good night for BBC One. I also think Land of the Lost Wolves would have done better in another slot, except I'm not sure where because it seemed fine where it was to me.

Lionel Richie was also scheduled poorly, why 10pm? Could have been held back for 9pm in the Summer.

Poor night for BBC One, it has to be said. 15.2% the lowest primetime share for them since...?

It's BBC One's lowest primetime share since Saturday 4th May 2011 when they had 13.6% against BGT finale night, so almost a year since then. I believe BBC One's lowest ever primetime share was 10.5% on Saturday 30th May 2009, so it was still pretty comfortably ahead of that. However I don't recall BBC One ever falling as low as 15.2% previously on a night when EastEnders has aired in its regular timeslot - usually when EE is airing, BBC One are almost always capable of 17%+ primetime shares even if they have a bad night in other slots.

I don't need the Ratings Thread abacus to work out that Len Goodman's Titanic offers greater value for money than Julian Fellowes's.

Just 2m fewer viewers but probably cost ten bob compared to £3m an hour.

GeorgeS, with his constant concern for licence payers' wallets, will be pleased...
