Cannot get the Favourites to work, I can Create a Favourite List, I can Edit a Favourite List, I can Delete a List. But when I choose Favourites From the Main Menu, and goto my List, pressing OK does nothing, system just ignores it. If go into Edit and try and reorder my Favourite List, it does not work, hilighting a channel in the list Pressing OK, then using the up or down button, they just move up or down but the selected channel stays where it is.

Any help please? or am I doing something wrong?

I got my Echostar today and I'm loving it. However the manual does not describe this bit very well.

Make sure you have left your default favourite list selected after you edit or set it up.

Now view any programme - press the i (Information button) this will display your default favourites list. Now use the up and down (navigation) keys to scroll through your favourites.

If you have created more than one list you can go to the main menu and make it the default so the next time you do the above you get your new default.

If you have selected radio stations in your default list you can toggle, the TV/Radio button (above the number 3 on the remote) between radio and TV stations.

This means up to four individuals can have their own list or you can do what I have and use it to list the Plus 1 hour channels for instance.

I have not been able to move the channels up and down in the favourite list, when editing, to change the order they appear but I found that by keeping the list short whizzing through them is quite quick anyway. The OK button does not select them as described in the manual.

If the OK button does not select them, then how do you change the [now/next] text at the bottom of the screen to the different channels without changing channel and then actually select the channel once you see something interesting?

Also is the ONLY way to switch favourite lists via the main menu? How many button presses is that roughly? Does the TV stay on in the background (sound picture?)

I was referring to the OK button not selecting items in the favourite list in the favourites set-up screen in the main menu when trying to move them up and down to change the order they appear.

The OK button works fine when selecting a programme that you would like to watch when viewing a channel.

Selecting a different default favourite can only be done from the main menu but the currently selected channel you were viewing stays in the background. It takes a minimum of 5 clicks.

P.S. I am just an owner such as yourself I'm not the manufacturer. Any improvements you would like should be sent to them.

For anyone considering purchase of one of these sets, here are a few points I can offer from my personal experience of buying one from Maplin several weeks ago. I was persuaded it might be a good purchase by various reviews* and Maplin's current special offer of under £180.

(* The reviews seem likely to be based on units with an earlier version of the software. The latest upgrade software has problems!)

In fairness, the picture quality is excellent and if you only want to receive the approved Freesat FTA channels this PVR is okay. I can't comment on the recording or Slingbox facilities (for reasons that will become obvious!).

There are some awful problems with the software used for the latest 121R upgrade which installs (slowly) when setting up initially.

The Favourites facility simply doesn't work - despite the fact that it's on the unit's Main Menu and in the supplied Handbook.

Equally awful, getting to and setting up any "non-Freesat" FTA channels is just about as tedious and "user unfriendly" as anyone could possibly devise. Switching between Freesat and "non-Freesat" is long-winded and truly horrible. So a real pain if you want to view Sky News or any other "non Freesat" channels.

For me, the final straw was trying to contact the makers using their website's on-line form and involving three attempts. Messages are acknowledged automatically. After that - nothing. No answers, no customer service.

So what could be a good PVR is badly let down by terrible software and rotten customer service. For me, it amounted to a total loss of confidence and the set was returned to Maplin for a refund.

Hi Just to let the readers know I'm using Firmware 121R and the favourites do work as described in my post here in May 2012 and the Slingbox feature works brilliantly.

I purchsed a copy of the iPad App which was a bit expensive at £21, Its free to watch from a laptop, but it was worth it to be able to watch my TV anywhere on my iPad.

There have been a few glitches but things have settled. I understand the logic (or lack of it here and there) and also how some users may become frustrated. It does need just a little polishing around the edges but overall I'm still well pleased and I'm saving £60 a month by not needing Sky boxes.
