I upgraded from my iPad 2 and was hesitant but I do not regret it one bit the iPad 3 is amazing. If you read websites and books and watch a lot of video the upgrade is definitely worth it if you can afford it.

However the iPad 2 is by no means obsolete now and is still an excellent tablet. Upgrading depends on what you use or will use an iPad for and if the upgraded specs are important to you.

If you have the cash I would say go for it and upgrade. I sold my iPad 2 16gb wifi for £280 so only had to pay £120 to upgrade so I am very pleased.

If you have any questions about iPad 3 just ask.

Sold my iPad2 16GB Wi-Fi for £250 and picked up the equivalent iPad 3 today. Well worth it - I mainly use it for watching videos and books and the difference is noticeable. My old Scosche case fits perfectly as well

It always makes me smile when I hear of people spending hundreds of pounds to get a slightly better version of perfectly adequate device that they already have.

Nobody says "Oh wow. Hotpoint have a new fridge freezer out tomorrow. I must sleep outside of Currys to make sure I'm one of the first to get it!"

We all have our "things" that seem crazy to others. Some like going out every Friday and spending a fortune on booze, others will go for expensive meals a couple of times a month. Others may spend £20 going to the cinema each weekend and getting popcorn whilst someone else will buy a season ticket for their football club. And some like having the latest gadget to play with.

All of those will seem crazy or funny to others, but those people will almost certainly do things which the gadget lover would find crazy or funny too. If people can afford it and want to do it, who are we to judge them?

This is the best comment I have read on any thread ever.

Well, that's true. It's also the "Must have it now" crew that keep technology companies in business and the whole industry ticking over.

In the software world, we rely on customers upgrading every year to keep us in jobs regardless of whether they need to new features or not.

I didn't upgrade as I'm still extremely happy with the ipad2.

My other half got the new one as his first tablet so I've had chance to have a play. Make no mistakes the new screen is excellent. Very vibrant and crystal clear. However I don't think it's as big a jump as the iPhone 4 was over the 3GS screen for instance. The iPad 2 screen still holds its own.

I haven't noticed anything running much faster as yet, but I presume it takes a lot to get the screen going.

The one thing I did notice was the weight of the new one. It's noticeably heavier, especially when you are used to holding the ipad2 and also thicker. It does feel more cumbersome to me, but I'm sure they will sort this out going forward.

Overall fabulous as a first tablet or upgrade from the first iPad. Personally I wouldn't upgrade from the iPad 2 just for the increased clarity on the screen. I may change my mind though if new iOS updates start making this device slower, but by then it will probably be this time next year.

I sold my iPad 2 for £320 on eBay so it only cost me £80 to upgrade. Completely worth it. Screen is stunning.

It depends what the product is though.

A new freezer won't noticeably improve the experience of using a perfectly good freezer.

In the case of the new iPad, its new screen alone would noticeably (to many people) improve the experience of using it.

For what its worth, I didn't get an original iPad, and by the time the iPad 2 came out, so had the iPhone 4 with its retina display. So I waited for an iPad with an improved display, because I would never have been able to justify buying a new one just one year after the first one.

Generally, I don't get the way the new iPad has kind of been criticised by some as not worth upgrading. I wouldn't expect to upgrade a computer every year, so I'm not sure why people would necessarily expect to upgrade a tablet every year.

I considered it but I don't think it's a big enough upgrade for me.

I will probably upgrade to an iPad 4 when it comes out next year, assuming its good.

Does the new Ipad still fall over when you let go of it?

Perhaps the iPad 4 will be cube shaped?
