Tissy sound on LG TV

Just boought a new LG 32" LED tv and althought the picture is first class there is something about the sound which really sounds odd. Its quite hard to explain but there is a tissyness to high sounds which all seem to be accentuated. The nomal tone controls and various audio settings including the "clear voice" option don't help at all. The odd thing is not everyone can hear it!! - my wife for one cannot but my kids can. After a while the sound becomes very fatigueing especially music. I have another LG TV - different model and other flat screen tvs and on them the sound is fine. I am not expecting hi fi from little downward facing speakers but they should at least be ok to listen to! Is there a name for this type of bad sund? the "s" sounds are particulaly bad and I want to be able to describe the problem properly when the engineer arrives next week. Any help gratefully received!!!!

I think Sibilant is the word you are looking for to describe the effect you are hearing.

yup thats it - many thanks - now all I have to do is translate that into Spanish!!!

As well as being sibilant the case also vibrates at some frequenciess - not good for a new tv! - hope the engineer can sort it!

Welcome to the world of flat screen TVs. The only way to fix your problem properly is to forget all about listening to the TV speakers. The problem is there isn't the room in modern thin tellies for decent speakers. They all sound pretty dire really.

Only way to get decent sound is to hook up the TV to a decent amp and speaker set of some sort.

There is a chance the speaker units have become partially detached which will make them sound even worse. Tightening up the screws may have an effect but if they are inherently naff then you are on a hiding to nothing trying to fix them.

Just to be awkward a lot of modern TV speaker ( if you can call them speaker at all ) are just wedged in place sometime using rubber sleeves , no screws involved . Doesn't help the OP though . OP are you running your TV from a external receiver such as Sky ? and is the problem on all inputs IE bluray etc.

If it ssssing only on its own built in Spanish freeview then it may be un fixable IE a design problem -- change the TV for something better .

I know speakers in flat screen tvs are pretty naff - but I already have three other FS tvs and although far from hi fi the sound is quite bearable on all of them - its just this new TV that differs - and not just by a little - its very noticable.

Re connections etc - I am using the TV as a stand alone for Spanish digital - it was bought in Spain and so is the proper model - also I have a UK sat receiver and a DVD connected but the sound is the same whichever input I use. As it is only a few weeks onld I am not going to open it up in case the engineer says I have damaged it.

The problem is the TV was bought for use in a rental property so I don't want tenents complaining - the engineer will be calling next week I hope ....
