Anyone else love this forgotten gem? It's one of my favourite Madonna ballads but it seems to have been erased from her history! Beautiful song.

We discussed this on the Madonna thread the other day, I think it's one of her weakest songs, I find it to be very vacant, it lacks a certain something her other ballads such as Live to Tell and You'll See have

I agree. I find it a bit tuneless. One of the few M singles I wouldn't choose to listen too.

It's never been one of my favourite Madonna songs.

I'm always surprised when people don't like it, it's definitely in my top 10 Madonna songs. I just think it's really haunting.

It's ok. It's very forgettable but it's not the worst thing she has done.

Wouldn't be in my top 10 but it's a nice song.

Those were the days when Madonna could release anything and it would go into the top ten.

Weak song, no video, no promotion, third single off a soundtrack album and still no. 9.

I like the song. Not my favourite, by any means, but there's something hypnotic about it.

I think Gambler is one of her more overlooked singles. I love it's driving rhythm and it's so catchy. Shame it always gets left off her Best Of/Singles Collection type compilations.

I have a new found love for the song. I lvoe the Whos That girl film so so much!

And played it on random last night and think actually it is much better than what i thought. But while it is by no means "among her best"...what is? It is a solid ballad really.

the "nowhere to ruuuun, nowhere to hiiide" is amazing!

Yep! the Look of Love is one of my favorite songs of her
I never understood why it's considered one of her weakest songs and I think it's quite underrated. There's no comparison to Live To Tell for sure but don't understand why people find it inferior to other ballads like You'll See...TLOL is very much of its time but it's cute, shows a vulnerable side of her and love the vocal delivery of the song.

It is a moving ballad. As i said before Cant Stop is the only song on the soundtrack by M i cannot "warm" to as much, i mean i will happily play it but it is the only one, but the string of three songs back to back is very effective for the soundtrack.

Can't Stop is very forgettable and after a few listens can get annoying but it is somehow very catchy. I never got into it that much also. but now and again, it's good to dance silly on it

Very very much agreed. Same with all the True Blue era stuff really...some immense/classic epics there but at the same time there is her most mushy/fluffy stuff this era too....Love Makes The World..., Cant Stop, Jimmy Jimmy, True Blue itself are all fluffy but they are still fun to let loose to

I guess I'm from the 'fluffy' era then?

I LOVE this era!

Confessions is the one I'm least fond of.

I'm also surprised that it's such a disliked Madonna song. It's not in my top ten but I am a big fan of it. Like you, I find it haunting.

I'm a massive M fan and know just about ever one of her songs, but i'll be honest, I couldn't even hum this track . I might have to give it a listen.

Thats what i love about Madonna though, everyones tastes really do vary and she very much appeals to the broad spectrum of her fans which is why we are all so vast, wide spread and in our millions

I should have said it was a weak single - it was unfair of me to say it's a weak song. What you say about The Look of Love is correct and I agree with whoever it was that said it had a hypnotic quality.

I want Madonna to write a song called "Won't Stop" to go along with Can't Stop and Don't Stop.

The 7" vinyl audio quality (which I still have ) adds to the 'haunting' quality. I agree it's no epic in the Live To Tell vein, which it's probably apeing in part, but I do think it has a sonic enigma all its own. I remember being, although only about 7 at the time, quite shocked it only climbed to #9!

For the reasons you gave, for a long time rue Blue was the album I listened the least if not almost never since its release, after she released LAP etc. I used to think it was very "teenager" compared to her more mature material and it would have made the bottom or middle of the Favorite Madonna albums lists a few years back. But got kinder on it recently - and even though it's pretty much an album of its time, very fluffy, it is still not your straight-forward lovey dovey album. And I'm still loving Where's The Party, La Isla Bonita & Papa Don't Preach as much 20 odd years on...

And let's have another Forbidden Love also so that the second trilogy is complete

And that's cool...You're entitled to your opinion. Glad you agree in some ways though
