I have worked in a pub where the landlady would put beer from the drip tray in pints for drunk customers, a nice reward for spending their wages there.

I worked behind the bar at a holiday camp on the Isle of Wight, and every morning the manager carefully poured a double measure of tap water into all the spirits bottles on the optics.

It was fairly common practice, as was a small item in the optic to reduce the measure. The land lady I mentioned above put White Horse scotch in every optic except Johnnie Walker. It amused us to hear whisky buffs saying how they always knew a Bells from Teachers etc.

Somebody must be able to tell the difference. I don't drink whisky so wouldn't know.

I have asked people in the drink trade and they reckon blends are not as easy to distinguish as single malts. I could always identify Johnny Walker as it is rougher.
