Give And Take Race - an attempt to introduce a new concept to the racecourse in the late 18th century. The premise was that horses should carry different weights according to their size.

The idea didn't last long, such contests being abandoned after only a few years.

Invincible Spirit. High class 6f colt who has been even more successful at stud particularly of 2yos and was last season's leading sire of that age group.

Identification of racehorses by lip tattoo was introduced in the US by the Thoroughbred Racing Protective Bureau in 1947. Microchipping trials began in 2008.

O'Brien, Vincent - only 5 trainers have won both the Grand National & the Derby but O'Brien did it in spades with 3 of the former and 6 of the latter.

Queen's Logic. European Champion 2yo filly in 2001 who went lame just before the 1,000 Guineas for which she was favourite. She subsequently contracted a viral infection from which she never fully recovered and was retired unbeaten in 5 starts.

Yachting - several racing metaphors come from the world of yachting or other maritime pursuits.

Horses sometimes come down the outside of the field with a wet sail while others tack over to the far side. If a rider reaches for the whip he, or the horse, is said to be sending out distress signals.

I'm sure there are others but I can't recall them right now.

Brighton where according to legend the future George IV is said to have invented hurdle racing by placing some sheep pens on the course.
