Run-in - Until 1994 the run-in at Sedgefield measured 525 yards which was longer than that of Aintree (494 yards) but not as long as Cartmel's (about 880 yards).
This was because the fence nearest the winning post used to be the water jump which, under Rules, cannot be the first or last obstacle to be jumped in a race, and which was therefore bypassed on the final circuit.
19 years ago the water jump was replaced by a plain fence which is jumped on the final circuit making the run-in much shorter.
