Hethersett 1959 Leger winner and sire of the Derby winner Blakeney and one of the few bloodlines from the Bayerly Turk in modern thoroughbreds. The line continued through the 2006 Derby winner Sir Percy named after Sir Percy Blakeney, the hero of the novel The Scarlet Pimpernel.

Imperial Cup - 2m handicap hurdle run at Sandown on the Saturday preceding the Cheltenham Festival.

First run in 1907 and the most prestigious hurdle race in the calendar before the Champion Hurdle was inaugurated in 1927.

Newcastle, the only other course to stage the final big chase of the season, the Bet365 Gold Cup, or the Whitbread as it then was in 1973.

Pegasus Stables - Newmarket yard currently occupied by James Fanshawe.

Until 1950 the stables were called Falmouth Lodge. The facility was built by Fred Archer in the early1880s as a place to train after his retirement from the saddle.

Archer famously shot himself in the adjacent Falmouth House in November 1886 at the age of 29.

Sassafras, champion French 3yo colt most famous for his head defeat of Nijinsky in the 1970 Arc, his name came from a tree of the laurel family. The colt also won the 1970 Prix Royal Oak (French St Leger) prior to the Arc which is rather ironic as many incorrectly attributed Nijinsky's defeat to him having run in and won the St Leger and thereafter trainers have avoided running horses bound for the Arc in the Leger.

Vermeille, French filly foaled in 1837 who the Prix Vermeille is named after. Nothing special on the track but a highly successful broodmare whose descendants scored seven victories in the Grand Prix de Paris, seven in the Prix du Jockey Club and nine in the Prix de Diane.
