Plaisanterie - French filly with a record of 16 wins from 18 starts. The third and last horse to complete the Cesarewitch & Cambridgeshire double (at 3 in 1885).

In the Cambridgeshire she carried a 14lb penalty and beat a Derby winner and a subsequent Eclipse winner by 2l in a canter.

Robinson, Peter - father of the recently retired Philip, trained Prince De Galles to win back to back Cambridgeshires in 1969 & 1970.

Won the second of these races under a then record weight of 9st 7lb.

(The colt must have been a really good thing in 1969 with 7st 12lb when he duly landed a monster gamble from all rates into 5/2 in a 26-runner field.)

Peter was also a good jockey who sadly died not long after becoming a trainer, I think he was in his early forties. As a jockey he rod for Teddy Lambton and Jack Jarvis, in fact I think he may have served his apprenticeship with Lambton.

T for T.M. (Tim) Jones, one time good jumps jockey who spent some years attached to Ryan Price's stable and then became a trainer.

^ I'm pretty sure Peter took over from Lambton when the latter suddenly retired in 1969.

Upset - the only horse to lower the colours of the legendary Man O' War (20 wins from 21 starts) in a 2-y-o race at Saratoga in 1919.

(Man O' War was facing the wrong way when the starter let them go but came through to be beaten only ½ length at the finish.)

Winkfield, James - the last black jockey to win the Kentucky Derby (on His Eminence in 1901 & Alan-a-Dale in 1902).

The first Kentucky Derby of 1875 featured 13 black jockeys out of a total of 15. Of the first 28 winners up to and including Alan-a-Dale in 1902 15 were ridden by black jockeys.

After 1921 no black jockey even rode in the race until Marlon St. Julien weighed out to finish 7th on the Godolphin trained Curule in 2000.

Yeats, WB - Irish poet & playwright who, in addition to having a 4 time Ascot Gold Cup winner named after him, was an inspiration to owners in at least one other instance.

Black Minnaloushe (2001 Irish 2,000 Guineas & St James's Palace Stakes winner) is the name of the cat in Yeats' poem The Cat And The Moon.
