Elephant Juice - correctly etorphine.

The drug is a large animal tranquiliser but when applied in small quantities it acts as a stimulant in racehorses.

Grumpy - 1912 colt by Canopus, subsequently gelded, which probably accounts for the name.

Made me think of Diana Rigg. I can actually remember a rig or two racing.

Quilp - 1884 colt by Arbitrator named for the character Daniel Quilp in The Old Curiosity Shop.

He was a small, malicious, deformed hunchback with a terrible attitude but to be fair Daniel was pretty much like that himself.
