“Pippy - Wayne Rooney's first runner as an owner, finished last of eight (after a slow start) in a 2-y-o race at Chester last week.”

Pippy ran last of 7 at Carlisle on 4 June before finishing a poor second in a 5-runner Class 5 at Folkestone last week.

(I'm not sure the horse likes it soft underfoot. Unfortunately I'm not sure he likes it good or firm, either.)

Tomway - Wayne & Coleen's other 2-y-o.

Ran 7th of 9 at Chester in a Class 3 then followed up with a 9th of 10 in a Class 5 at Chepstow a couple of weeks later.

Vacarme....good horse with a lousy owner, the Widensteins, which also became a notable stallion.

Ward, Wesley - US trainer and the first from that country to win at Royal Ascot.

In 2009 he sent out Strike The Tiger to win the Windsor Castle Stakes and followed up with Jealous Again in the Queen Mary.

Barzalona, Godolphin jockey whose name always reminds me of Freddie Mercury.

Cromwell, Oliver - famous (or notorious) historical figure who banned horse racing in 1654 yet continued to keep his own stud.

There's a stand named after him at Huntingdon. He (or his stand) is now commemorated by the Cromwell Stand Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle.

Chandra Cross....from the sixties and trained by Sam Hall......I think.

Double - a win double is a bet on two horses where both have to oblige for you to collect.

(The selection for the second leg of the double is unimportant because the first one's going to lose anyway).

A. Errington....Jockey attached to the yard of C.J. Benstead back in the sixties but who suddenly wasn't riding any more. He was always at the top of the list, suggesting weight may have been a problem since I don't recall him losing his allowance. A lot of them go that way.

Global as in the Global Sprint Challenge which now consists of 10 races around the world. It was not awarded last year for the first time since it was introduced in 2005. Black Caviar seeks to win her second race of the series this year today.

Head - official winning distance by Black Caviar over Moonlight Cloud in today's Diamond Jubilee Stakes.

(It looked shorter to me).

Imari...1970s horse presumably named after a type of Japanese porcelain that was made in Arita but shipped from Imari.

Jeez it wasn't much more than a nose, do you think they were trying to make the Ozzies feel better about it. I actually backed the second and thought he might have won if the third hadn't seemed to worry him by coming between 1st and 2nd. Having said that, I think had the winner's jockey not made an error of judgement, he'd have wone by a length or two.

Inbred.

Juddmonte International which it seems will now be Frankel's first outing over 10 furlongs after Cecil initially hinted it could be the Eclipse after his win on Tuesday.
