Escape - racehorse owned by George IV (then Prince Regent) from 1789-1791.
The horse raced at Newmarket on consecutive days in October 1791, finishing fourth and last in the first contest and winning the second in a major reversal of form.
The Jockey Club stewards suspected rider Sam Chifney of throwing the first race and conveyed to the Prince that if he continued to retain Chifney, 'no gentleman would start against him'. George retained his belief in his jockey and retired from the turf in order to make that point.
