Fordham, George (1837-1887) - 14 times Champion Jockey with 15 Classic winners to his name.
Overshadowed a little when Fred Archer came on the scene but he was often more than a match for Archer and apparently psyched him out of victory on many occasions. |

Gladiateur. French bred colt who in 1865 won the Triple Crown, he also won the Ascot Gold Cup by 40 lengths. He was known as the Avenger of Waterloo by the French although his pedigree beyond his sire and dam and one grand dam is entirely British.

Tangerine Trees - good sprinter trained by Bryan Smart with 11 wins from 37 starts over the past 4 years including a Group 3 at Newmarket last year.
Owned by the Tangerine Trees Partnership and I'd be surprised if the name wasn't borrowed from The Beatles song Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds. |

Yarborough - 1939 filly by Masked Marvel.
Possibly named for a hand in contract bridge containing no card higher than a nine (the chance of which is 1827/1). The hand itself is named after Charles Anderson Worsley Anderson-Pelham (one Anderson just isn't enough for some people) 2nd Earl of Yarborough (1809-1862). |

Anglesey Hunt - raced at Beaumaris on Anglesey between 1744 & 1903.
Anglesey and the Isle of Wight are the only two islands in the British Isles to have staged race meetings. |
