Over at the knee. Also known as goat knees where the knee in a horse is inclined forwards and is a significant impediment to a racehorse. Ormonde was born with the condition and initially was considered to be of no use as a racehorse but although he suffered from problems with his knees they did straighten sufficently for him to become one of the greatest horses of all time.

Tristan, the only horse to win the Champion Stakes 3 times in 1882, 3 and 4. He raced for 5 seasons but only really came into his own from his 4yo season on and won 27 races out of 51 starts over distances from 6f to 2.5 miles including the July Cup and the Ascot Gold Cup. At Royal Ascot in 1882 he ran and won 3 times at distances of 1 mile, 1.5 miles and 2 miles. He had a dangerous and unpredictable temperament and was described as "a very vile-tempered animal" which his trainer blamed on being mistreated as a yearling.
