Yattendon - Berkshire village 7 miles northeast of Newbury.

There is, or there used to be, a good 2-y-o maiden at Newbury called the Yattendon Stakes.

1989 2,000 Guineas & Derby winner Nashwan won it first time out in 1988 and other top class horses have contested the race over the years.

Feather Weight - here's an extract from James Lambie's book The Story Of Your Life:

Quote:
“Little Sam Kitchener confirmed in a letter to the (Sporting) Life in 1864 that the lowest weight he ever rode at was 3st 12lb on a filly in the Wokingham Stakes at Ascot in 1840. Only 10 years old at the time he maintained that his actual body weight had been just 2st 7lb and that he had to make up the excess with "a heavy saddle and cloths".”

The average weight of a 10 year old boy today is approximately 5st.

When Kitchener weighed out at 3st 7lb to ride Red Deer in the 1844 Chester Cup he would have been 14 years old. The average weight of a 14 year old boy today is roughly 8st 3lb.

^ It might be more useful (if that's the word) to look at this from another angle, which is that today 2st 7lb is the average weight of a 3' tall 4 year old boy.
