Further reading on Frank Hayes reveals that in allowing Sweet Kiss to keep the race the Jockey Club waived all the usual rules.

I was curious to know whether the luckless rider was carried to the scales for the weigh-in. Probably not. But the key question arising out of this incident is surely whether or not horses need jockeys on top.

After all, the horse was carrying dead weight up the home straight and still managed to win.
