I don't think so, for all the posturing the RFU must understand that Lancaster has brought them so far. Let's not forget what a debacle English Rugby was in when he took over, the team is continuing to build, they are still incredibly young and we've been one of the few teams to give SH teams something to think about when they come up here.

That said, if we don't get out of the group I agree, he'll be gone, but I think we'll get to the final and if we do he'll stay in the job. It's all about how England play and no one can deny that they've played some scintillating stuff this season, and we've still got 2 of our best ball carriers out and Manu to come back if there is space for him.

People need to accept that Robshaw isn't going anywhere, top tackler again, his stats continue to speak for him and Armitage isn't happening (unless there is an injury to Robshaw).

Adam Jones joining Harlequins next season

Could be a good move all round

Well done Paul.

Sad to see what happened to George North but that red card for the Wasps forward was ridiculous. It wasn't a red card, or a yellow card or even a penalty. Of North had got up, it would not have even been considered for a quick word with him. He was trying to avoid colliding with him or jumping over him.

Agreed. This new ref might be waiting a bit for his next Premiership appointment. Hughes never even broke his stride.

Came across an amazing stat today ... (just shows how far Irish rugby has come).. In the 14 Championships between '86 and '99, the Irish team won just 12 games

Kevin Sinfield from Leeds Rhinos to Yorkshire Carnegie.

About 10 years too late for England though.
They chose a goal kicking loose forward and it was Andy Farrell.

Ireland really were cack back then, sure they lost to Western samoa and Italy one year!

It goes in cycles though, Wales were every bit as diabolical in the early 00s until Ruddock took over. Scotland haven't been competitive for years now and even England had an awful spell from mid-late 00s. France are at their lowest ebb for a while at the minute

The 6 nations was a joke in its early years, with Scotland, Italy and Wales being more or less a formality for the rest (although scotland did produce an odd shock result). The competition was in real trouble till wales came from nowhere and did the Slam in 05 and really livened it up. Though they did disappear again straight after until 08 again when Gatland came in. It's only now where we have 3 real top sides and hopefully France can get there aswell. there's no doubt the competition is the most competitive it's ever been now

It'd be great to see Scotland come good too again. Italy will never be competitive in it sadly, bar a freak year

Hughes banned for three games

Ridiculous decision, one that wouldn't have been made if North hadn't been knocked out.

Apparently the ban if for 'three meaningful games' but he can't come back before April 28th (which could be four games).

The club are appealing the punishment and so we should.

How many were against Wales I wonder? We seemed to actually manage to beat them a few times in the 90s.

Not really unless you think he was trying to tackle North with his knee when the ball is in the process of being touched down. He probably meant to knee his back not head but it's about time referees tried to stamp out this type of foul play.

I cannot understand the logic behind the decision.

It is patently obvious that there is no malice at all, he is tying to avoid him and in real time is in a split second.

Is this Northampton match on Sky? I did not think that they covered this.

Sky and BT share the rights to the European competitions, usually split over a weekend on a 50/50 basis. I think BT get the lion's share of the English clubs' games, leaving Sky with the Pro12 and French clubs.

It's close in Toulon now, but it'll be Clermont-Toulon in the final no doubt.

Gutted with today's result, thought Wasps did well to fight back in the match.

Didn't thing Toulon were all that great today, but they got their penalties and took their kicks well. A learning curve for the team, hopefully we'll do better next season.

Well done to Sarries on their last gasp win, at least they were given a penalty right at the end (unlike Bath yesterday).

After yesterday's outstanding showing, lancaster really has to consider looking at Abendanon for a RWC spot. He has been a revelation since his move to France

I'd love to see him in but I don't think it'll happen. With England's rules pretty tight on this, barring an injury to Brown prior to the World cup with Goode and Foden they'll not feel a need to make an exception. I think the same for Armitage, the only way he'll be getting in the squat is if Robshaw gets hurt.

Some strong opinions on the matter

Will Carling @willcarling · Apr 5
Makes you think, if we are really serious about winning World Cup, should look at @Magicsteffo7 @nick_abendanon @delonarmitage ?? A thought!

Iain Balshaw @iainbalshaw · Apr 5
@willcarling @Magicsteffo7 @nick_abendanon @delonarmitage bollacks to the rules. If we wanna win the World Cup we gotta play our best players

Sir Clive Woodward @CliveWoodward · Apr 5
Great coverage @SkySportsRugby - watching @nick_abendanon @delonarmitage @Magicsteffo7 crazy @EnglandRugby not considering these players

Re England players in France - some players suit playing there and brings out the best in them - professional era wrong to penalise them

Or will it?

Outstanding news for England if true

Had ye won 6n I wouldn't see this happening tbh, but bizarrely that agonising loss on PD might well be a blessing in disguise in a way

Re England players in France - some players suit playing there and brings out the best in them - professional era wrong to penalise them”

The flip side is that every decent English qualified player decides to desert their Premiership club to move to France. None of the Top 14 will agree to give England coach the extra access to players that currently happens with Premiership clubs and his job is made harder.

On a basic level it appears unfair that some players miss out because they quit for France's better money and lifestyle, but then it's equally unfair on those players who chose to stay and earn their place in the squad.

It's not like this rule was suddenly invented after Steffon or Nick moved to France, they went there fully knowing the situation and did so anyway. I'd be annoyed if I was Brown, Foden, Goode getting replaced at the last minute because Abendanon got parachuted in. The same for Vunipola or Morgan if Armitage replaced them at 8.

Anyway didn't Armitage try to gain French qualification for RWC only to abandon it when the criteria changed, meaning his club would have to give him time off to play 7's matches. Toulon weren't willing to do that, so why would we expect them to be flexible with AI and 6N training blocks.
