If ever evidence existed that bans should be by the game, not the week, this is it.
I remember the Sarries coach (former) was baned for 15 weeks..but actually only had to miss one game as it was the end of the season!

thing is, if they banned Clark for X amount of games at this time of year he could probably miss 3 or 4 friendly/pre-season games and claim them as part of his ban.

The 32 weeks should run until the end of this season, then stop and pick up again on the first day of the new season. That way he misses the important games.

Also, it's rumoured Northampton may appeal the decision as, apparently, the report said the act was 'unintentional', which is bullshit.

Yeah I am surprised they are even considering an appeal.

yeah, the ban was laready cut down from 64 to 32 weeks due to him pleading guilty, they wouldn't want to appeal and get it put back up.

Reading the paper this morning and they're considering an appeal because the report states the act was deliberate, but Clark didn't intend to injure Hawkins.

That begs the question - why would you grab someones arm and yank it if you weren't trying to injure them?

Intresting comments by Austin Healey yesterday in the Leicester hammering of Worcester.

If you didn't see the incident Alex Tuilagi was sheperding a ball over the sideline when a Worcester player hit him from behind with a high elbow. Tuilagi turned round at swung at the offender, hitting him with an open palm, and got sin binned.

Healey observed that the rule now in Australian rugby league the player struck would be entitled to retaliate, and telt that's a good thing as it would quickly stop such cheap shots (and blatant holding like Ben Youngs reacted to last week). I presume the instigator would also suffer any penalty - not the player who reacts.

Must say I agree with him - as long as it remains amongst those two only..

Cracking game between Quins and Sarries this afternoon.

Thank god we now have Roberts , Davies and Scott Williams as three very good international centres in Wales. Just seen Henson described on another forum as the 'gazza' of Welsh rugby. Never should've had that sabattical from rugby for all the reality tv shows. He's symptomatic of part of the modern youth , think they can be a jack of all trades and have it all early in life. He's sadly ignored the one thing he had the potential to be very good at.

Agree, I just hope the likes of him and Cipriani will be a lesson to youngsters coming through...

Pains me to see what James Haskell has become... never a natural player but physically very imposing; sadly he's more interested in brand Haskell, twitter, his iPhone App and his clothing company than actually trying to get better.

He always was.

Some months back a work colleague who supports Wales told me that I'd love it if Henson was available for England.

I put him right on that very quickly.

He's not been in the headlines for a whike so.......

I always thought Henson was a show pony and reckon I've been proved right (several times). I've seen a few, in many sports, but none as bad as him.

Wouldn't think he has a welcome left anywhere important now.

anyhoo I've over the moon that Wasps managed to snatch a win today against Gloucester, meaning we keep the 8 point gap to Newcastle

hopefully Bath's awful form continues and we can sneak a result in a few week, but that's probably asking for too much

Heineken cup returns for the quarter finals over the Easter weekend. How do fellow posters feel the matches will go. My predictions are

Edinburgh v Toulouse - French club by 8-10 points

Leinster v Cardiff - home side by 25-30 pts as the Blues have been atrocious in their last two league matches.

Munster v Ulster - home victory by 10-12 points

Saracens v Clermont - home win by 6-8 pts

Citing report

seems Ferris may have been a bit economical with the truth

didn't draw blood
team doctor contradicts his testimony about injury being severe

maybe he should appeal...

in other news Henson is sacked

From the citing report it would appear that an 8 week ban - in fact any ban - is rather unfair.

Ferris grabbed Hartley round the head and his fingers nded up in Hartley's mouth. Nothing that Hartley did caused this to happen and his teeth closed on Ferris's fingers - this could easily be argued to be involuntary. In fact it could be argued that Ferris was as likely, probably more so, to be committing an offense as Hartley.

A half decent lawyer should get that overturned on appeal.

Gavin Henson's sorry career will be seen as a Shakespearean tragedy about which we no longer wish to hear
That this escapade did not provoke indignation or vitriolic comment but rather a tired shaking of heads, says much about how Henson is now viewed by his public. Their indifference is far more chilling; the truth is much more damning – he is a lost cause and they have no more emotion to invest in him.

Yes, he is not untalented and he's had some unfortunately-timed injuries but this most recent sacking is entirely his own doing. It is so self-destructive especially since he's getting towards the end of his career (and probably the end of it now! ). That's the bit I can't get round - he's 30 years old and should know better by now - what a sad waste.

I hope that if nothing else, his career serves as a warning to younger players that behaving this way is destructive and career-wrecking.

Rugby career (when he could be bothered) all but over I would say

Had the potential and talent but the glare of the paps turned his head a bit too much

As soon he started stepping out with Charlotte Church, it was the beginning of the end

So many tried to help but he threw it all back in their faces

Oh well, if anything, icecubegate will draw attention away from the thuggery on the pitch, and the charges of drink driving and drunken assault that have blighted the game.

What is it about the Celtic League and teams disappearing? Celtic Warriors, Border Rievers, and now Airbags.

Edinburgh play Ulster in the SF in Dublin at the Aviva stadium. Think I know which side will have more supporters there.
