With Roberts definitely out and Tualagi doubtful, anyone think Gatland might throw a curveball and put North in the centre with BOD and have Cuthbert/Maitland/Zebo as the wings.
Nah, it'll be Jonathan Dayveees in the centre. If the Lions find themselves in a situation where they have to play Maitland in a Test then it means my Nan hasn't been able to fly out in time as cover.

I take it Garland isn't too concerned about the breakdown then.

AW Jones and O'Connell will really have to earn their crust if the Lions want to win this one.

Edit: Maitland on the bench? Mind is well and truly boggled. Even if Tuilagi has a gyppy arm and if Hogg is dead surely they could have put Shane Williams or Gerald Davies or Steven Hawking on the bench to cover wing rather than Maitland.

Maitland must have some pictures of Gatland, sick and perverse pictures.

No real shock other than that I suppose.

Youngs surprised me in his inclusion but as CGG_12 picked up on, he is a better choice from the bench as he brings something different.

If I were Justin Tipuric I would be looking for a contract in Aus while im there becuase all the time Warburton and Lydiate are there he is never gonna be more than a bench.

With Warburtons injury situation the lack of an openside cover is scary.

Pleased for Davies, I really rate him as a player, a real threat but more so at 13. Not sure how he will go at 12 but I expect them to mix about a bit.

If I were the Aussies I would target Phillips as he definatly is a weakness in his speed of delivery, that said he is a big game player. I would also attack the midfield as Davies and O'Driscol may leave holes with being out of postion.

Genia is the danger, he will pull the Lions pack around and he will offer a threat at the set piece. Hooper will cause havoc and Warburton is going to need to be at his best to negate him and tie him up when lions in possession.

The set piece is not going to be a given the Aussies have a front row that can hold, it might not do much damage but it can at least provide ball.

Out in the backs I think the Aussies have so much threat and they have the ability to stretch the lions in defence.

It is such a tough call, I would love a Lions destruction job but I think this is going to be closer than ever.

# Due to my predictions watch as the Lions destroy Austraila and Phillips snuffs out Genia, Warburton makes Hoopper anonimous and the Aussie back line is a total shambles.

Tipuric is very unlucky that Warbs is captain. When they played together for Wales u-19s, Warbs played number 8 as Tipuric was and still is a better player. Amazed that Tpuric didn't even make the bench, and would've picked Zebo over Cuthbert or even Kearney with Halfpenny on the wing.

this little exchange on a Wasps forum amused me

Let's hope Young's lineout throwing is better than usual..still given that none of the hookers on this tour could hit a barn door there isn't much to choose from!
At least Youngs can hit the door at present; Hibbard can't hit the barn and Best has failed to land it on the farm.
-----
Other than the decision to include Maitland over Zebo, I'm not sure there's that much wrong with squad. Assuming that Gats didn't have the nerve to drop captain Warbs

So are we looking at a comfortable 3-0 series victory?

Odds are are 3/1 for it. So maybe worth a punt if you are looking to win some quick money.

That's a fair assessment apart from one tiny little fact...

Youngs is really, really shit.

Phillips has many, many faults but he can always put on his CV that he isn't Ben Youngs.

Murray isn't much better either.

Genia is Godlike though (unfortunately).
A little harsh on Youngs but I do think the quality of scrum half's in the UK and Ireland isn't an area of strength at present

the series will go down to the wire, Tuesday's defeat has shown the weakness of our backup players

2-1 for the Lions, just

Never though as a Saints fan that I'll be defending a Tigers player but you are talking out of your derriere.

My main hope for tomorrow is that the Welsh players finally know what it feels like to beat an Austrailian team...........

That was me, no problem in admitting.

Glad I'm proven wrong.

It was nothing against Croft, I said when the squad was picked I'd start him, I just thought Gatland would go with Lydiate, especially as Croft seemed to be getting limited gametime!

We beat them in the Autumn in 2005 and 2008 and a few of those players are still around.

and it was me that said Heaslip will never start, so I'll hold my hands up too. Hope he proves me wrong. Huge game for him today, you rarely if ever win a big test without the No8 having had a stormer, thats a key battle.

Exactly. I haven't a good feeling about today, Aussies just look a class above in the key areas in the middle 7-12. Still, front 5 is ours and North, Bod & H/P are more are more than a match.

They'll all be close, im absolutely convinced it'll be 1-1 after two tests and have a feeling we may just scrape it in the 3rd by a whisker.

But today, maybe not. A closed than it sounds 25-12 to Oz.

Not out there though. Not that it'll have too much bearing if BOD and POC are still on the pitch at 80 mins, they can bring a calmness.

Can't call how the Wallabies will play. On paper they are excellent but haven't played together this year. Also key players have had bad injuries. Looking at their backs Ioane and Folau are powerful try scorers - we will have the edge in the forwards definitely. Mowen is class at No 8 for the Wallabies but we have power in the back row with TC SW and JH

I go with the Lions in this first test - just

It was a toss up between him and Barnes.

Folau scores after Lions attack and had a penalty. How good is Genia.

Slow ball again is the undoing of the Lions.

Had to laugh at the commentator when he said 'Phillips wants quick ball'. Well it would be a first anyway.
