He's partly to blame for the downfall in dance music...

...because?

Personally, I love his commercial sound. When Love Takes Over is wicked...as is Love Don't Let Me Go.

He's okay.

Just most of his songs (at least the ones that get in the charts) sound the same, and everybody is copying him, which means EVERYTHING sounds the same. It's so annoying.

David Guetta just cashed in on the electro/synth/dance movement which Timbaland/Nelly Furtado/Justin Timberlake had been popularizing.

he like many producers that become that popular have the occasional musical off moment. with him being so popular unfortunately those songs chart and it distorts the overall picture cheapening the brand somewhat. he has some gems though, that's for sure.

I would say Calvin Harris is better. At least he is more original than Guetta who just recycles songs....(Sexy Chick/Where Them Girls At and I Gotta Feeling/Club Can't Handle Me)....plus Calvin Harris has had some huge hits with We Found Love, Bounce, Feels So Close, Ready For The Weekend etc....other producers have been trying to emulate his sound imo...Guetta is definitely a great producer though.

I couldn't agree more

His early stuff isn't commericial but production wise, isn't awful and rather good. He is one of the worst musical producers out there. Why people are so eager to work with him fails me?

It is fine to say what you say...but I have to ask why. Why is he one of the worst producers in your view? Musical reasons please.

Furthermore, what is wrong with being commercial?

Its tacky, cheap, soul less factory-line pop music. That's why.

Only in your opinion. Lots of people enjoy 'hit factory pop' music...as you put it. Nothing wrong with it at all. David Guetta has produced some awesome dance/club tracks.

That is also just an opinion, no matter how much you present it as fact.

All i'll say is we've gone from Joy Division/New Order, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys etc. all the way to David Guetta and Pitbull.

...

End of discussion.

Not really,

Here's one of his song - If We Ever
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGftqTsz8rA
Different to the likes of Turn Me On and Little Bad Girl.

David guetta should be a bottom of the list of best producers, hes the reason why the chart music is the way it is today

near enough every track in the chart these days has dance elements, what ever happend to a good rnb track?

destinys child > kelly rowland

kelly rowland > david guetta

he also doesn't make his own tracks, he uses an engineer to make his music

I think David Guetta is the most exposed producer of the moment. That's all. There are so many amazing producers out there, and not just of dance/pop. Nigel Godrich for me has to be up there as one of the very best, but I doubt the Guetta fans will know who I mean.

If this Nigel chap isn't mainstream/commercial, then I won't know who he is.

Exactly. Which is why I have to disagree with your original post. If your musical knowledge is limited only to commercial music, you're not going to have a wide knowledge of producers.

And he produces Radiohead, Beck and Air amongst other artists, also the soundtrack for Scott Pilgrim.
