A quick Google and this is a definition of a headbanger that I found:
A headbanger or bounce spin is performed by the man swinging the lady around with both of her feet off the ice, supported only by the man's grip on her ankle. The lady is elevated and lowered during the spin in a periodic fashion, sometimes with her head coming dangerously close to skimming the ice. ^ With that in mind, looks as though Jorgie didn't do a "headbanger" as such. |

To be honest I don't care what the name is for what Jorgie did. I thought her routine was absolutely brilliant - it didn't need a headbanger to be spectacular. I had gone off her but that performance got me to vote for her again last night and I did NOT expect that to happen! I'm very very impressed.

The strange thing is I don't know why they thought people wouldn't notice she didn't do a headbanger. It's a move that has featured since series one and it is known for the bounce element, which she didn't do. The rest of the routine was lovely and packed full of interesting moves so it really didn't need a 'not headbanger' and it definitely brought her marks down. It's almost amusing the way they kept trying to convince us that she had done one though.

![]() I must admit she shocked me too in both her dance and her skating skills. I haven't voted but I just might in the final.

In the training VT Jane, Chris, Matt Evers, Jorgie and Schofe's voice over refer to it as "the headbanger" no mention of "floating" anything The first mention of a "floating headbanger" is in Tony Gubba's commentary after they'd compelted the routine .. then Schofe asks Matt E "how was the floating headbanger" Chris Dean when asked to comment says "congratuations the first lady to take off and land ...." then he mumbles and drifts off without saying exacty what it was she'd took off and landed, he didn't mention headbanger as obviously he knows that what they did wasn't a headbanger None of the judges referred to the move a being a headbanger Louie - didn't mention the move at all .. just the arms, ballet moves etc Katarina - commented on the routine as being complex and performed cleanly "and yes landing on one foot" was all she said about the last move Robin - in reference to the move ... you could easily have done the lets just lay her on the ice and be pretty but you stuck with it So interesting that after the performance not one of the quaified skaters on the panel or T&D referred to it as a headbanger (floating or otherwise) ... it makes me wonder if originally in training it was going to be a proper headbanger and that's why it's mentioned in the VT's as being so .. but then by the time it got to the live show it was changed to a float spin but obviously that doesn't have the same "danger" sound or shock factor of the name "headbanger" so Tony Gubba and Schofe were given the term "floating headbanger" in their notes and of course the qualified skaters didn't refer to it by name a they know it wasn't a headbanger Although Jorgie was obviously under the impression that she had done a headbanger as in the results show when they do the post performance back stage interview she says she still can't believe she landed the headbanger and Matt says how proud of her he is (I'm a bit surprised as a professional that he doesn't appear to know what a proper headbanger consists of, and I say that as a big Matt E fan) Chris is then interviews backstage and he refers to the headbangers in plural and says that they weren't 100% so perhaps he was referring to how Jorgie's wasn't performed like a proper headbanger if it was supposed to be one and having watched the performance and the skate off again there was no "banging" in either of Jorgie's skates ... both times it was a float spin |

I have a feeling that a headbanger was planned originally but by the time it got to the live shows the routine had been modified to make it a float spin but they'd already hyped up the two headbangers in the show so it was too late for them to go back on it and announce it as a float spin |

I don't care if it was a headbanger or not, what she did was a first on the programme, that is a fact. She went into it in the correct position and landed it in the correct position which is more than Matt's partner did. Her performance was brilliant and some on here seem determined to knock her down on anything they can. |

Thanks Diamond, I was going to watch the show back to check who said what but now I needn't bother.
![]() I have to see that I thought Matt E looked a tad uncomfortable in the backstage interview when Jorgie said she can't believe she landed a headbanger, like he didn't want to knock her. That was my interpretation at the time anyway and of course I could be very wide of the mark. |

like I said above, seeing as all the hype of the show was dependent on there being two headbangers in the show and Jorgie being potentially the first female celeb to do a "professional" version the cynic in me would say that that is the reason why professional skaters like Robin and Katarina didn't point out what the actual move was ... something which anyone who is an actual skater would be able to see
So no it's not just DS ... ask any skater worth their salt and they'd tell you that that wasn't a proper headbanger |

ie compare the number of rotations they do in her actual headbanger a couple of weeks ago to the far fewer number done last night http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75yQdsOaa1w |

I still think that the best float spin was by Suzanne Shaw. She did an absolutely gorgeous rotating one that lead into the headbanger. I know she didn't land professionally but it was a really beautiful move, one of the few headbangers I've actually liked.

I wouldn't say he's ignorant, that's a bit strong and offensive (especially as you appear to jump on anyone who is rude or critical of Dan) .... I think in the circumstances he couldn't really say anything and will obviously go along with it ....... do you honestlyt think that any of the other pros would have owned up in the same position? |

yes that was a decent one ..... do you remember poor Daniellla Westbrook the other year doing a float spin from lying on the ice and it seemed to take ages for her to get airborn? ... lol ... but she laughed about it afterwards

Also again with Dan when he dropped Hayley he admitted it was his fault. So no excuse that Matt couldnt have said well actually the move didnt go as it should have and taken some of the blame for it. |

and let's not forget that Dan's not averse to towing the party line and going along with the show's hype ..... unless he really was having a romance with Kerry Katona when he posed for those staged pics in the park ![]()
