I think that chap was a sole trader so there are other possibilties. If the creditor has the money he could threaten and then take bankruptcy proceedings, that may have the desired affect. But if the debtor is indeed a 'man of straw' then as they say you can't get blood out of a stone.

Joan didn't seem to fare any better against Messrs Lydford and Barnard of Classical Flooring, hence her then considering bankruptcy proceedings against them. If they haven't got cars outside that belong to them that can be taken, that seems the only recourse. Which, of course, is more time and expense.

These so called Sheriffs maybe all nicey nicey and law abiding on camera, but it's a totally different story when they are switched off.
I have had personal experience with these scumbags, They tried to take a car that belongs to a friend, until that is I pointed out it is used for disabled purposes. Their reply, oh really. Of course they failed to notice the disabled badge, tax and stickers on the vehicle. In law bailiffs or Sheriffs cannot take cars, or indeed any vehicle if it is used for the disabled. Nor can they take action against anyone who comes under the vulnerable act. Since the car they were going to take clearly comes under that rule, they were stuffed. These bully boys do not do their homework most of the time, and it many cases, they don't know the law regarding their own profession. There are two sides to every story, and this programme does not show the two sides clearly. Far as they are concerned, the Sheriffs are angels and the people that owe are devils. Nothing is black and white as that in real life. |

Must admit I find them a curious 'team'. Whilst Lawrence ("Mr Griggs" as he sometimes introduces himself) is very assertive and seemingly has an answer for everything, 'Kev' is the absolute opposite! Very timid and looks like the first puff of wind would blow him over and I always think if he got challenged by anyone he would burst into tears!
Maybe he's a trainee? and as i believe they're on commision i do wonder how the set-up works because he's definitely surplus to requirements. |

Just a heads up to say that BBC1 from tomorrow (11am) will be showing the last 5 episodes of series 1.After they showed series 2 they repeated series 1 but only showed the first 5 episodes.

These episodes would have been shown when series 1 was originally shown. When BBC1 repeated series 1 earlier this year they didn't show all the episodes.

This has been aired instead of The One Show this week and I think last week too. It's rather entertaining to watch. Quite amusing how the people being chased for money try all the tricks in the book to avoid paying and then eventually someone gets the credit card out.

From commercial entities, they need to be getting at least half the cash due on a visit. It's often clear they are likely to make empty promises and disappear, as happened with Ferrari Verdi.
The debt was 30k and it looked maybe as little as a third of total costs was eventually regained, when the testing kit returned was worth 20k alone. |

It seems a bit too much of an education on how to avoid paying. The voice over keeps saying things like "if the assets are xxx, the sheriffs will leave with nothing".

Nah, I've seen it before. The one with the bloke who had the bikes in his garage, who got angry has been shown twice now.
I must have missed this one, thought i'd seen them all. |

Still the same type of people trying to get out of paying money they owe. The garage owner today was a nasty piece of work. |

Thankfully most of the people paid up this week. This 'Set aside' thing is a nuisance. |

This show is my guilty pleasure.
One of the sheriffs remind me of Uncle Fester from The Addams family
