Week 4 Ratings:

Phoenix

Adam - CP, N, 3 - Still comes across as a massive tool. He is ridiculously negative and always whines about the PM's decisions, even though Tom's strategy this week turned out to be correct. He is my least favourite and I'm sure I'm not alone in saying I hope he'll be out on his arse soon.
Azhar - INV, Neutral,1 - Again, was missing the whole task and I can't think of a single word he said. I think he, along with Adam will be among the next few to go, as when he has featured, its been pretty negative.
Jade - UTR, P, 3 - Jade is bubbling along nicely, but for me is still under the radar. She is the most successful girl atm and she got praise in the boardroom from Tom (as the creative one), so a good edit again this week. I think her PMship could be her defining moment.
Katie - INV, Neutral, 2 - With three tasks and three heavy edits so far, she was bound to get one where she didn't feature. Apart from mope a bit with Adam, I can't remember what she did, but she still remains a contender.
Stephen - MOR, N, 2 - A very difficult guy to figure out. He has made errors on every task (poor selling, poor pitching, wrong spelling, wrong choice of products), but has featured heavily and makes the mistakes in an endearing way. I think he could be around for a while yet. His PMship next week will be very interesting.
Tom - MOR, P, 4 - A brilliant edit for Tom, who flies up the table in my estimations after this task, in which he managed calmly and effectively, whilst sticking to his risky strategy that, ultimately definitely paid off. A real contender after this week, I feel.

Sterling

Duane - UTR, Neutral, 2 - Didn't feature much, didn't get much flak in the boardroom for the loss, it wasn't a great week for him, but it wasn't a terrible one either.
Gabrielle - OTT, M, 4 - The first OTT rating I've given (Though if I could go back, I'd give Jane one in Week 2) was because Gabrielle was shoved in our faces all episode. She got a mixed edit, clearly as loads was made about the budget she blew (in spite of the fact that even if she had spent nothing, Sterling would have still lost - a point picked up only very briefly on YF) but she got praise for selling well and being very enthusiastic. She's one to watch after this week, I think.
Jane - UTR, N, 2 - She only just got a negative rating, but with a Karren VT on how bad she was at selling, this pushed her into a N. Overall, I was shocked with the firing as I had her pegged down as a Final firing! I thought that her edit (which showed a lot of her) indicated she would be a Jim candidate. Instead, I would liken her edit to Melissa. It's a shame she went, I wouldn't have fired her.
Jenna - UTR, Neutral, 2 - Didn't feature much, apart from as a part of the team that refurbished the products. She slagged off Laura in the boardroom, but this didn't amount to much. She won't win.
Laura - MOR, M, 4 - A mixed edit for the losing PM again this week. She got praise for her motivational speeches, but for little else. Most people on YF seemed to think she was lucky to escape really. I hope the loss won't hurt her confidence as I thought she managed the task quite well. She did deserve the criticism in the boardroom that she got, though and I would have fired her out of the three in the boardroom. She fell down in my mind after this week.
Nick - UTR, Neutral, 3 - Had his first smatterings of a negative edit today, but not so much that he would get a N. He was on the refurbishment team, which didn't get a great edit and was seen trying and failing to attract customers. However, Jane got it worse, particularly with a negative Karren VT about it and, ultimately, Nick received no real blame for the loss. He didn't really get harmed.
Ricky - INV, Neutral, 2 - I barely remember seeing him. I think he did get a few negative vibes, particularly when he asked to take the curtains and carpet in the house, but, for the first time, I think he's being set up as the Syed/Tre/Ben/Stubaggs of the series. and I think he will get far because of this.

So, Jane obviously got fired, meaning I have to edit my order, but no-one else already in my Final Five prediction featured heavily at all, apart from maybe Jade and Nick. Tom's strong showing, though catapults him into my Top Five and I think that Gabrielle, Ricky and possibly Laura could yet get into the Final Five. My Final Five prediction is:

Hmm watching it again, Katie's remark seems more positive than I remember it being. But it's still a sort of begrudging respect.

I think Tom is a contender to make it far, but his persona just doesn't come across as one to win.
I don't think Sugar thought his 'not got a bad word to say about anyone in the team' was very smart. Say the team loses, what then? He almost set himself up for a MAJOR fall with that statement. lol

Adam - OTTN3 : Tom's main opposition on his team, made the same point over and over again, and was shown to be wrong
Azhar - INV : Completely edited out of the salesforce of 3 that almost outsold Sterling's sale force of 7. Done for, and quite soon.
Jade - UTRP1 : Got praise from Tom for her eye for design, was otherwise barely visible
Katie - CP2 : Was Adam's henchwoman and refused to admit that Tom was a good PM after his win. Bumped up to an M by being shown as a strong saleswoman, and admitting that Tom was a strong leader.
Stephen - UTRN2 : Utter Buffoon
Tom - CPP5 : Excellent winners episode for Tom - won as PM, proved his doubters wrong, showed insight, and had a Winners Moment by praising his entire team (some people will interpret it negative, but I think it's EXACTLY the sort of thing they bring up on post-show round-ups to show what a stand-up guy he is)

Duane - UTR2 : Almost an N due to his attempt to be PM twice in a row, which the honking fail music demonstrated was supposed to be a mistake, but I don't think there was enough other material to justify it.
Gabrielle - OTTM5 : completely out of control all episode, but given a somewhat favourable edit. Would probably have been a P if anyone had made the point on the show made on You're Fired that her overspending didn't cause the loss. As it is, Lordalan trying to make out she was picked upon almost pushes it up there on its own.
Jane - MORN3 : very obvious attempt to make her appear lacking in substance, probably succesful
Jenna - UTRP2 : wasn't very present, but Funky Bin was supposed to be endearing, she sold well (something it wasn't at all necessary to highlight) and she took up against Episode Villain, Laura.
Laura - CPN4 : And was so from when they decided to dog-whistle with that "as an attractive businesswoman" interview onwards.
Nick - MORP3 : Has misgiving about Gabrielle's direction but remains supportive. Thinks Laura should be fired, but praises her for her motivational skills. Is praised by Laura in the boardroom for selling (based on little evidence). Very MORP3.
Ricky - MORM2 : Is right about the Union Jacks, is wrong about the "pile it high, sell it cheap" strategy. Is kind of a doof throughout.

in that order. Finding it very hard to see anyone else taking it, especially as Laura looks like she's about fill the Female Villain slot left by Jane.

Actually Adam was right they did need to buy more stuff, but he still was kinda bitchy towards Tom. But I think if Adam was PM he would have probably spent all the money

But Lordalan very definitely made the point that Tom's fraugality on Day 1 was a large part of why they won the task. The decision to wait and see how well the Day 1 stock sold before sending a subteam to buy more on Day 2 is the Hinge Factor, and suddenly when buying more stock is the right thing to do, not the wrong thing, who is shown advocating it? Katie, not Adam. (Which probably says it all about their respective edits).

I've compiled an edgic chart of the first 4 weeks of the show based on the views from this group. The edgic results are based on what was the most common suggestion made for each candidate or a malgamation of each of our suggestions.

For the winner picks I went based on who received the highest number of winner picks, then based on the number of second place picks etc.

Note that a green border around an edgic rating indicates the winning PM and a red band represents a losing PM.

And with tonight's episode Duane truly did set become the Phillip of S8, an early frontrunner undone in part by cockyness. I'd like to say us in Edgic called it somewhat, but losing the board's second pick does raise some questions.

Was a bit of a shock Duane going, the biggest positive in losing camera-hogs like Jane and Duane is that we will see more of the others (whether we really want to or not is another question )
Duane's constant bickering with Laura certainly made both of them look bad in my opinion and brought the task down, while Nick tried to get them to settle it.
Ricky's enthusiasm for the task and good pitching led to a balanced Medium tone. I struggle to picture what Jenna and Gabrielle did, but I remember them being there at least, and a few lines of what Gabrielle said.

Same goes for Tom and Katie, I remember their presence but not much else. Similar to Ricky, despite Stephen's mistakes, his enthusiasm towards the task, and also being the winning PM, balanced out to a Medium tone.
Adam always gets a consistently over-bearing OTTN each week it seems. As far as Azhar goes, I felt really embracing the video shoot at the risk of looking quite silly was endearing enough for a Positive tone.

Contenders:
Nick - easily my top pick right now, he has a consistently good edit and never comes across negative.
Jade - jumps back in after a fairly professional showing of herself.
Stephen - again slithers up after winning as PM.
Katie - maybe her comeback is starting to falter but still hanging in there.
Tom - the dullest edit out of everyone, but he may be a slow-burner.
I have been extremely tempted to put Gabrielle in there, but think she's more a character rather than a contender. Further emphasized on You're Fired when they made fun of her ditsyness over forgetting the name of the class. However, Lord Sugar has a soft-spot for her, so she's my 6th place contender.

Winner Picks:
Nick- Whilst not prominant he was still made to have an impact in the show, and once again maintained positivity, always a good thing for a winner.
Jade- She's giving me Yasmina vibes. Like Nick she seems to be a positive figure most weeks and does get good callouts and is seen as right on most occasions, this week she rightly called out Adam on his negativity.
Tom- Very UTR, but last week's episode was a good one for him, he needs another one quickly though.
Katie- Her episode 2 and 3 momentum has stopped, I'm beginning to suspect she's going to be out before the final.

At this point in the series, Yasmina had made a gigantic PM win, got into a racist row and sandalwoodgate.

Jade? She is a director of cheesy dance videos.

Yeah, totally the same

Maybe Jade hasn't had the big standout moments yet, but the way in which she proves to be a positively leaning under-the-radar figure is very reminiscent of Yasmina. Also like Yasmina she is being sheilded from a lot of negativity in the tasks and being hidden by other contestants as distractions.

Yasmina and Debra were the most visible candidates in the early episodes

And Yasmina was already considered one of the frontrunners after week 2 (just search the threads on that series).

Adam : OTTN4 - whine, whine, whine and he didn't even have any real valid complaints this week
Azhar : OTT2 - almost went P, but I think he was just supposed to look daft - nobody else commented on his performance positively other than him
Jade : UTRP2 - praise again, but for creativity again, and again not effusively. One trick pony, and unless she gets praised for something else soon, I don't think she can win.
Katie : UTR2 - one of many tricky edits this week. Pushes both the team's theme (which is why they win) and the over-use of props (which is their big negative) hard. I don't think we were supposed to notice her much either way, but she was a big contributer to the direction of the task in a positive and negative way and it was more or less buried, with the focus shifted onto Stephen.
Stephen - MORN4 - buffoon edit again
Tom - UTRP1 - Yawn, classic winners holding episode edit.

Sterling

Duane - MORN3 - why they lost the task, and it was made obviously so when there could have been more room for doubt. The Simon Smith of this series, except nobody really acted enough of a tit to make his exit episode positive for him
Gabrielle - UTRN1 - it's hard to determine who the blame for "should have been back in the boardroom for doing nothing" was supposed to land on, but when Lordalan said it there was a great big close-up of Gabrielle, so I'm guessing at least partially her.
Jenna - UTRN2 - Lordalan wincing at the sound of her awful voice <3
Laura - CPM3 - again difficult to discern her edit, because she was a bickerer, but she justified it, but they showed lots of shots of her sexy dancing for no reason (always a negative for women to be sexual on reality shows) but also they said over and over again at the end of the Boardroom that she shouldn't have been there, but then Lordalan yelled "I'VE STILL GOT MY EYE ON YOU" for no real reason. Difficult one.
Nick - CPP4 - lots and lots of talking heads justifying his actions and talking about his mental processes and also allowed to justify himself on the tag of "having done nothing". I guess leaning P or M depends on whether you think we're supposed to buy his justification. I think we were.
Ricky - CPM4 - his edit is still riddled with those silly "wrestling promo" style talking heads that are supposed to make him look like an idiot, but otherwise a very strong edit for him. He's got the backing of Nick and Karren (always a good sign he makes it to the end game), and it was said he Project Managed well by most of his team, even after they lost.

Nick - potentially a difficult episode for him, but if we were supposed to believe he was supposed to be in the Boardroom then Simon Ambrose still survived the same claim more pointedly directed. Otherwise, strong content as usual.
Katie - something about her edit this week interests me
Jade - barely hanging on by a fingernail

Adam - OTTN4 - Appears to now exist only to make the other candidates look less hateful and stupid by comparison. Didn't do anything right and whined continually. The edit says he's gone as soon as his team loses, but we've seen people edited as unlikable and/or incompetent survive long after their perceived time before. We all enjoy a bit of outrage!
Azhar - MOR2 - Edit was sympathetic in showing him stepping up to do something he was clearly uncomfortable with, but I wouldn't say it was positive - aside from actually appearing in the video, we again didn't see him contribute much. Seems to be destined to be fired not for doing anything particularly wrong, but for not doing anything particularly right.
Jade - UTRP2 - Competent. Creative. Another week, same Jade. Her edit is positive in that her contribution was again highlighted, whereas the quietly competent are often edited as dull do-nothings (see: Azhar), but we need to see something more from her if she is going to be a real contender.
Katie - UTR2 - Again shown to be someone who comes up with ideas, including the one that actually won her team the task. Was also shown to be wrong about the prop issue. Neither was edited to be of much consequence though, but it does open the way for 'Katie is inventive' being the culmunation of the 'Katie is better than anyone imagined' arc.
Stephen - MORM4 - Pitching and costings were both shown to be enthusiastically done but poor. His team leadership wasn't the horrifying car-crash that might have been expected from previous weeks, but this was no redemption story.
Tom - OTRP1 - Only really saw him do one thing - anticipate the prop storage problem - but he was correct, so his overall edit was positive. Correctly pointing out problems seems to be Tom's role, and it's a role that has served people well in the past.

Duane - OTTN4 - What in other weeks was shown as passion and enthusiasm this week became megalomania and childishness. Was really hammered home that he lost the task for his team. Can't help wondering whether his edit might have been different if there had been someone else in the boardroom who could have gone.
Gabrielle - UTR2 - Another uneven edit for Gabrielle. On the one hand, it was implied that she was one of the ones who didn't do much, yet throughout the show we got snippets of her doing all the things that someone had to be doing but we just didn't get to see (artwork, costings, writing the pitch, etc). Continuation of 'Gabrielle is creative but flaky'.
Jenna - UTR2 - Like Gabrielle, it was implied that she didn't do a great deal while showing us hints that maybe she did. Being shown hanging around Gabrielle on the phone and wearing an almost matching outfit to the more integral Laura in the gym gave the impression Jenna is something of a follower. No-one was shown to have much confidence in her - she was ignored, despite being right, about the need to ensure the martial arts element of their routine was clear, and was even shouted down in the boardroom by Laura when seemingly trying to say something positive about her. Not the edit of a winner, but better than some of her previous ones.
Laura - CPM4 - Her edit didn't seem to match what happened in the boardroom. The edit showed her as a bit full of herself and too proud of her dancing to do what was really required, but in the boardroom it was mentioned in passing that she had done the martial arts moves but they had been edited out and there was all the insisting that she shouldn't have been in the final boardroom at all. Hard to judge how things are going for Laura when she has twice now had edits that were at odds with the boardroom.
Nick - UTRP2 - This week brought Nick to the fore as the character we are supposed to like and empathise with - we got to see him being bemused/appalled/amused and talking in something other than 'I am the greatest' soundbites. For someone who didn't appear to do much, it was a very likable edit.
Ricky - CPM4 - For the first time we got to see him as something other than an overconfident generator of idiotic soundbites (although we still got to see those too). Was shown to be a good team leader and excellent pitcher and was praised by his team. Is it a good idea to try to undermine your comedy casting by being surprisingly competent? Maybe.

Winner picks:
Tom - Is rarely shown to be wrong. Even when surrounded by wrongness and catastrophe, Tom is never to blame, because Tom knows why it happened. We've seen this before...
Katie - Now that it's been established that she has been understimated and rather unlucky, this week seemed to quietly push Katie as an ideas person.
Nick - Had a good edit in what was a bad week for him.
Gabrielle/Jade - We've now firmly established that these two are creative and that this is a valuable trait. Jade's edit has been very solid, while Gabrielle's has been much more uneven but LordA has been shown to like her, and if he's going to go with someone creative he might go for the riskier choice in Gabrielle. We need to see more of Jade.

Contenders:
Nick - another subtle yet generally positive edit.
Tom - having Nick/Karren talk up his abilities again. But I'm almost hoping he doesn't make it far because he comes across so dull. But mainly it's the edit that's frustrating, showing similarities to last years - crap all over everyone who isn't final 2, and the only way to make the contenders seem good is to hardly show them. Makes Apprentice seem a bit of a joke now.
Jade - she's always there somewhere, but there's almost no character-development. Makes for a potentially dreary final.
Jenna - by far the most interesting character this week, along with an overall positive performance, plus the fact that many presumed contenders are falling by the way side, means she jumps up the list after a fairly poor showing so far.

Think Nick and Tom are almost certainties for the final 5, Tom G's edit this year reminds me of Tom P's edit last year, aside from that he's already won as PM.

Jade could be given a Helen edit - we'll see after next week as she seems to be PM.

Stephen is trying to be "Jedi Jim" IMO, either he'll make it to the last 5 or go just before the interviews (a la Melody).

Now Jenna I think is being given the Jim edit - start off disliking but gets more bearable. She could well be one to watch.

The Susan of this series I think is Ricky - some negative edits towards the start but has had quite a positive impact and did quite well as PM.

Not sure where I would place Nick.

Adam I can see being a "Zoe" type.

Uncertain where Azhar, Gabrielle and Laura fall into place. Laura perhaps could be a "Natasha", Azhar maybe a "Leon" and Gabrielle a "Glenn".

I think next week is going to be so important for Jade's chances, she's PM-ing next week and gets the chance to showcase her abilities after being UTR most of the series. If she underperforms she's dead as far as Edgic is concerned.

Nick and Tom are looking good for the final 2, with the other two being distraction characters similar to what Jim and Susan were to Tom and Helen.

Adam - OTTN4 : cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap
Azhar - UTRP2 : any criticism of him was either contradictory (from Adam) or entirely self-serving (from Stephen). If they hadn't aired his awful "I AM A MASTER MANIPULATOR AND KILLER WHALE OF THE SEA!" interviews earlier in the series, I'd almost be consdering maybe not being 100% on ruling him out.

Stephen - OTTN4 : buffoon edit, with an unpleasant edge

Jenna - MORP4 : I think we're supposed to like Jenna in this episode, but I think this was probably all in all the most positive edit for a team so far this series (especially as they only scraped a win) so...
Laura - UTR2 : complains once that she feels Jenna is setting her up, but I don't think it's enough to assign a tone either way
Nick - UTRP2 : is very deliberately shown researching the location issue thoroughly and getting it right, as contrast to Katie who speaks off the top of her head and gets it wrong
Ricky - MORP3 : does the Maths right and sets up a publicity stunt that is shown to work. Probably his best episode so far.

Can't see anybody else doing it based on the edits. Jade's been UTR for too long now.

Adam - OTTN4 - I actually think he was edited more negatively than his actions, rather than his manner, warranted. Cheap, cheap, cheap has been a task-winning strategy before, and listening to the feedback of people you have designated a task to shouldn't be wrong, but he was made to look stupid for doing both things. I mostly just feel bored by Adam now - he is too predictable and not really even amusing.
Azhar - UTRP2 - Seeing him speak well in the boardroom was about the first really unequivocally positive thing we have seen about Azhar, but I don't think it bodes well for him that 'Azhar does nothing', albeit that this was contradicted by Adam later, is being brought up. It's out there to be made more of now.
Jade - UTR2 - Still we don't see much from Jade, and if anything, this was a less positive episode than previously.
Katie - CPN3 - Somewhat like Duane, her actions weren't terribly different in this task than previous tasks, but the edit and outcome were very different.
Stephen - OTTN4 - Adds nasty to incompetent as his defining character traits. Possibly a bit late to start editing him as a real villain though.
Tom - MORP3 - Once again is surrounded by catastrophe and disaster, and once again it is made very clear that this is not Tom's fault. The positive for Tom this week was that we saw him several times try to do something about the problem, where previously we have seen a lot of him knowing what the problem was, but not a lot of him doing anything about it.

Gabrielle - UTR1 - She was... there...
Jenna - MORP4 - A fairly low-key edit for a winning project manager, but then the problems of the other team took up a lot of time. Had some likable moments, but even these seemed to highlight Jenna's lack of big-timeness "If someone speaks Scottish to us..." "I'm from the North" "You're really good at that maths".
Laura - UTR2 - Didn't see much of her, but her complaining about Jenna setting her up kept the rather bitchy edit she seems to have been developing going.
Nick - UTRP2 - Without a great deal of fanfare, was shown to make a positive contribution. Felt rather like a holding edit for someone with a way to go yet.
Ricky - MORP3 - The most interesting thing for me about Ricky's edit was that he was shown doing something well and I don't recall a single stupid talking-head to off-set it. Admittedly, there was enough stupidity going on elsewhere this week, but it will be interesting to see if this trend towards a more positive overall edit for Ricky continues.

Next week, when Jade is presumably PM, will be the make or break week for her, but this weeks' somewhat less positive edit than previous weeks suggested that her long-awaited move out of UTR would not be a positive one.

Overall:
Ricky: was mixed because, they got a negative for not dropping the stock off with Tom, but positive for initial boardroom defence and for pushing the fake tan.
Stephen: just acted like an idiot, as usual, and it will be fun to see him in BR
Jenna: got a positive edit, although it was mainly just for selling; it wasn't as though she had some major strategy But we'll see, she's got the best edit of the girls left, although let's face it, she hasn't got much competition.
Gabrielle: appeared about 3 times in the whole episode, made the bikini thing which nobody made very much of so... yeah. Another really quiet ep for Gabrielle.
Nick: positive for buying into the right products, generally, but negative for having no stock left at one point. Really not as positive as I'd have expected.

Jade: One of the worst edits I've seen, even though the team on the whole didn't do that badly. Having said that... well... I think she'll stay a little while longer, now.
Azhar: all he really said was strategy intermingled into repetitive strings of sentences, I had got the impression he would be a bit more helpful than just moaning, but he wasn't helpful at all.
Adam: good salesman, got praised for it, but is that all he is?
Tom: praised for costing, brought to BR for no reason, another positive edit for Tom after he suggested reinvesting in the gold-mine bugs.
Laura: did very little.

Adam - MORP3. Shockingly positive edit, although that might be just in comparison to previous episodes. Praised by Karren, seeming lack of the usual idiocy, explicitly pointed out to be a strong seller. Can't really poke holes in this one.

Azhar - OTTN4. STRATEGY. While he did have a point, he wasn't shown doing anything really productive throughout the episode along with a massive whiff of Alex Epstein in his droning. Very one-note for the whole episode, not much spark throughout the entire series.

Jade - OTTN5. Her chances to win have taken an utter battering. Even though there was some faint praise for her passion and motivation, and her team's loss wasn't a crushing defeat, it was evident that her lack of leadership was what sunk the task. I did think that it was very smart to bring up her business plan as a defense in the boardroom, but that was probably the luckiest PM escape since Laura Moore and the exclusivity cock-up and the closest potential double firing for a while.

Laura - UTRN2. Not a whole lot to say about this. Although there was quite a bit of subliminal negativity shown towards her in the boardroom. There seemed to be an implication from Shugz that she should have been in the boardroom instead of Tom which was what bumped my rating down to an N - next time she's in there, I'd say she's a goner.

Tom - MORP5. Most blatant winners' edit I've ever seen. Shown to be correct about the bugs and considered margins, calm and composed in the boardroom, utter fawning from Karren and Nick and the most obvious 'there is no way in hell you're getting fired' since Kristina in Series 3's France episode or Kate Walsh in Series 5's Cat Plane fiasco. I'll be shocked if he's not an interviewee.

Gabrielle - UTR2. She...uh...sold tan? She did suggest to re-market the beard trimmer which appeared to quicken sales so a faintly positive episode for her, but still quiet all the same. I'm really puzzled by her future on the show; her card is marked by 2 early boardroom visits so she can't afford to mess up, but Shugs seems to definitely like her. She could just as easily be a finalist as she could be out next week.

Jenna - UTRP3. A low-key edit like Gabrielle, although she was consistently shown to be driving through fake tan sales which is ultimately what gave them the win.

Nick - MORM4. Would've given him a straight P if it wasn't for Shugs stating that his decision to have Ricky and Stephen not deliver their stock straight away could've cost them. He did have his head screwed on though in regards to the tan and continues to come across efficient, competent and will probably go far. Reminds me a fair bit of Yasmina in those respects along with now winning as PM multiple times.

Ricky - MOR3. Seemed really ineffectual in this task but I suppose that could be more down to Nick. Not really shown to be doing much selling but I suppose he put in a valid defense of why this was.

Stephen - UTR1. See Ricky, but without the boardroom defense.
