Cat now doing dirty protest because of new puppy!

as some of you saw my earlier thread I got a puppy 3 weeks ago and hes settling in ok. He still wants to play with the cat but we have tried to get them used to each other as best we can. Currently the dog sleeps in his crate in the living room and the cat sleeps in the bedroom with us. The cat came in this morning 7am and went straight to bed, this afternoon my flat mate goes back home and sees the cat has done a poo on the floor in the bedroom! now he is a fully trained cat, there was somebody in the flat at the time to let him out, he could get into the hallway to meow etc. Is he doing a dirty protest because of the new dog? He also did a wee on the rug in the bedroom yesterday, again he was not locked in, we were there to let him out...whhyyyy is he doing this?

Because he's stressed. He has no concept of "protest".

My cat went on a dirty protest when he had to wear a stocking / neck cone. He was not a happy cat and once had a poop right in front of me!

Sounds like your cat isn't happy and is telling you as much. His space has been invaded by a monster and he has no choice in the matter.
