Wii U - rumours and discussion thread
As we are nearing E3 and the big reveal of the Wii U I thought it may be good to create a thread where we can discuss the console, our wishes, current rumours and other related discussion. Usually some info tends to leak before E3 which is truthful so it's worth keeping an eye on rumours over the next few weeks I think. Recently I came across this information <here> Whereby a supposed insider with close ties to Nintendo has leaked some information on some of the games that will be announed at this years E3 including....World of Warcraft. Now that would actually make some sense as this game enver came to consoles and would be a major upset in the console wars due to the large following this game has. Some Nintendo Wii U eShop and retail titles supposedly in development are: Quote:
Sonic Team Boss Takashi Iizuka recently stated Sonic would be a "perfect fit for Wii-U" which is cool news. I hope it gets a lot of Sonic games like the Wii did. <source> Mark Rein, the Vice President of Epic went on record a few days ago to state that he'd be "shocked if it doesn’t do well and that "we’ve yet to really see what the Wii U can do and I think at E3 this year they’re going to shock us" Interesting article on his thoughts <here> |

It is not the controller that will win the console wars but how it is used. The Wiis controller had excellent potential but was mostly wasted on mini games and fitness crap.

I'm not gonna bother making a list as its been done many many times already. Granted it would of been nice to of seen alot more Nintendo offerings especially as far a Motion plus is concerned. |

Yeah that is very true.
It is also being speculated that the Wii U will see a late Summer release, which would also coincide with some of the announced/rumoured titles. |

If Nintendo has learned from the 3DS launch then they need to have either a Zelda title (unlikley given that Skyward sword has just come out) or a Mario title at launch. They sell consoles simple as.
I think both of these unlikely but Pikmin 3 is a cert |

Yeah, that list is obviously bullshit. World of Warcraft? Okamiden HD?!
![]() I don't think that Nintendo need a Mario or Zelda at launch. As you say Funky, Zelda is unlikely given the recent release of Skyward Sword anyway. Mario would help to shift consoles at launch, but the system is going to sell out of the gate no matter what. The start of a new gen is the best chance to launch new IPs, or reintroduce ones that have been away. Pikmin 3 seems like it could show up in the first few months, which would likely be a system seller for me. It'll be interesting to see if Nintendo go for the casuals out of the gate as well. They launched 3DS with Nintendogs and Cats, so we could see something like an upgraded version of Wii Fit to take advantage of the controller functionality that they showed at E3 last year. I think that we'll probably see a bunch of Nintendo HD collections as well, which have done pretty well on the 360 and PS3. If Nintendo can show off a handful of interesting games at E3 and muster up a decent launch line up then I think they're in line to do pretty well. After the 3DS, I don't think that they'll go for a crazy price either which will be important for them. |

I think price will be crucial, price is important for any console....but I think with the Wii U it's uber vital. The unit price i'm guessing will essentially will boil down to how cheaply Nintendo can satisfactorily manufacture the tablet controller.
I also think Nintendo need to have a stonkingly brilliant E3 presentation to whip up enough buzz, which hasn't really been there so far.....No pressure Reggie

They do indeed, last year's E3 was disappointing, we knew it, they knew it. A year on and the Wii U is set to make a second unveiling at this years E3 (that has to be a first), I'm sure it will be something a bit special.
I'm not sure how true the recent software line up rumours are but you can't count anything out, no doubt there will be some surprises in store. |

Crytek will be announcing a "spectacular" title next month. Many are speculating it is Crysis 3, but it could even be Timesplitters 3. Crytek have Wii-U dev kits. <link>
Rumor: Nintendo is working on at least three brand new IP's for the Wii U with 70 titles in development for Wii U and Nintendo expecting to show off around 10 or 11 of their own at E3. <link> |

![]() I can see Crytek having something good for Wii U. There have been a lot of rumours (from good sources), plus Crytek's former director of technology moved to Nintendo a few months ago, which could be related if the rumours are true. |

I'd prefer Timesplitters 4 as well, the Crysis games look great, but although they push the envelope graphics wise, really they aren't the best shooters out there.

This is interesting, although Hideo Kojima's next project will not be on Wii U it sounds as if he'd be interested in making a unique game for the Wii U centred around the consoles features
http://www.gamezone.com/products/met...a-on-the-wii-u Although theres nothing concrete in that statement, 3DS has just had its own tailored version of MGS3 built around the consoles features, and Nintendo has got exclusive MGS content in the last few years (Snake appearing in Brawl and The Twin Snakes on GC). so there could be something in this |

Ha I don't even know why I said Timesplitters 3, slip of the tongue
![]() Would be great if something comes of that Davonator, he's the sort of person who could get the most out of the unique controls I think. |

Wonder what Professor Layton Chronicles will be? All the DS Prof. Layton games on 1 disc with Wii U graphics?

One thing I hope they do with the Wii U - bundle a Wiimote plus with it.
Simply because game developers will know that every owner has access to one, and the motion controlled games will be far better for it. |

I have HUGE expectations for the Wii U - probably not a good idea I know.. but being a gamer since the Commodore 16 days, the Wii U hasn't got me this excited for a games console since the N64 was announced. Nintendo cannot mess up this launch.
And it does need a killer launch game, sure the tablet and subsequent features will be fun but I want a game that makes the console an essential purchase. As a very casual player now due to 'getting on with other things a 33 yr old does' the Wii U has rekindled a little spark within. |

I agree there is something exciting about this machine, it really sparks my imagination. Let's face it, the Wii is really the only console this gen that doesn't feel like a PC in a box. These days there is such a high emphasis on multimedia, online gaming and graphics and not everyone wants this. I just hope they don't try to cater to the Western mainstream market too much, but I don't think they will. I'd much rather they keep things "casual".
Nintendo Gamer seem confident that a new F-Zero game is going to be heading to the Wii U. ![]() I'm also very interested in what 3DS / Wii U connectivity might be available. |

Yeah the multimedia route is tricky - to be honest I don't mind if the machine is capable of playing/designing your own apps or even if it caters more to Xbox/PS gamers with it's online features etc, I think as a person who has grown up on Nintendo games, we just want our games and plenty of them please

I think that's part of the reason we haven't seen an F-Zero game since GX was because it was so good and hasn't dated one bit. I think it was a little bit too hardcore for some people and it got very hard later on so it would be nice to have a new F-Zero game more along the lines of F-Zero X. A new Wave Race or 1080 would be great too! Will be interesting to see how Nintendo approach the multimedia route as so far they haven't even let us listen to audio CD's let alone watch DVD. |

Wonder if they will let us watch DVDs on the Wii U? I dont mind either way TBH but the Wii was meant to have a DVD drive and this was dropped at the last minute.

No it was not dropped, Nintendo just don't feel it's necessary to pay for the feature. I agree with them no point in adding cost for feature most people can do with the many devices they probably have in each room of there house.

Not too fussed about if it plays DVDs or not as like many I've already got a Blu Ray player and DVD player.
As long as its got Netflix, BBCiPlayer, ITV player, 4OD etc then I will be more than happy. |

I debated whether to post this, but there's a lot of hoo-ha at the moment from the usual suspects, because a Darksiders 2 dev has claimed that the Wii U is on par with current gen.

http://dalealstick.com/wp-content/up...elda-wii-u.jpg I really can't see Nintendo going for anything below par with the Ati R700 series. As anything would really be bottleneck the triple core CPU. That will be surpass the PS3 and 360 graphically very easily. |
