katy perry disses beyonce's song beautiful liar
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/0...n_1366916.html
she says this about rihanna and the beyonce/shakira song: "We've collaborated on a lot of things, but just not songs yet. It's one of those things that's got so much build-up that we have to deliver," she said during a BBC Radio 1 appearance on Monday. "I want it to be like that Eurythmics and Aretha Franklin song "Sisters Are Doin' It for Themselves," not "Beautiful Liar." But I definitely want to do something that is so iconic." Perry doesn't have a reputation for starting fights with other celebs, so we hope she just didn't think before she mouthed off -- plus it was a strange comment to make after she just embarrassed herself covering Jay Z and Kanye West's song "N****s In Paris" at the same BBC Radio 1 appearance. on a side note: she does seem to no like lady gaga at all in general but doesn't she consider beyonce as an inspiration and even said she's a living legend as well? I don't think she dissed Beyonce and Shakira. There might have been some subtle shade there, but still no big deal. She just used that track and its lyrics as an example of what her collaboration with Rihanna won't sound like. She probably just meant that if these 2 collaborate then the song won't be about love/ a love affair, but more about empowerement ( which is getting cliche btw
)

To be fair, she's always been iffy with Lady Gaga because of her religious imagery in her songs and music. Katy isn't very religious like her parents but it's still a religion that is apart of her family and how she was raised and she feels it must be respected. I can really understand her on that part
She may have been taken out of context regarding Beautiful Liar. She perhaps meant she wants an Iconic duet because Sisters doing it for themselves is an Iconic song it's self, as well who sung it. Beautiful liar is a good song but it's not iconic or memorable. You wouldn't associate it with Beyonce and Shakira if you were to name their songs. |

I don't think Katy and Lady Gaga hate each other at all. Their fans make it out to be that way, but I just don't think that's true, and one tweet doesn't make an arguement. 99% of the general public aren't aware of any conflict between them, and I'm sure there isn't any. It's not a big deal, compared to the arguements you see rappers getting into, or compared to the arguements pop stars used to have before the Internet age.
As for Beautiful Liar, it's an incredible song. Honestly, I'd be more than happy if Katy and Rihanna did a song sounding like that!! I don't think Katy was dissing the song or collab though, just saying that she didn't want a song that sounded like that (I can understand that, as Katy isn't particularly urban music-wise).

i think its an insult to say that because katy doesnt even have the talent anywhere near beyonce has or even shakira alone!! i do like the song as well but its not gonna be remembered in 20 years but still wasnt right for what she did though to mention it!!

Madonna was banned in her household when she was growing up she said in an interview. I am not sure on her feelings overall. Madonna's representation of religion was more about making a point and also questioning her own beliefs and thoughts about things, especially such as the death of her mother. Gaga's religious use to me personally had no relevence at all. She was giving out a message and she wasn't proving a point.

They are. Her doing "I Kissed a girl" was a huge sin to her parents but at the end of the day, their daughter is doing something she wants to do. Plus Katy perry is a gay activist so doesn't take too much of what the bible says to heart.

Plus, it had the two remixes, the RnB version and the dance version, which made it even more massive (yes, people did remixes before Katy Perry lol). |

It was a pretty massive hit though. Went #1 in the UK, and went straight to #1 on US iTunes.

Maybe she is religious? You can be religious and do things that to some are considered a sin and something "God" wouldn't approve of |

I find Katy Perry's stance against Madonna etc using religious imagery in their videos and tours highly suspect, considering she's happy to co-opt a sexuality to push her tedious music.
As for having to respect religion, actually, you don't HAVE to respect it. I don't respect religion. I respect peoples own choice to follow certain religions, but for the most part, they're all as batshit insane as each other. Follow whatever religion you want, but don't expect me to take it seriously. |

I don't think Beautiful Liar is iconic either (Beyonce has done better) but Katy could NEVER produce anything iconic FULL STOP!!

Not looking forward to this collaboration either - Katy Perry and Rihanna on one song = overplay like we've never seen before. If they had some Adele on there too it'd be the only thing on the radio for 6 months. |

Don't think she's in any position to throw even moderate shade at over how iconic or not anyone else's songs are. Especially when they're more talented/iconic than her.
Anyways. Good luck to making that iconic duet, gurl. I'm sure people will consider this single amongst the great collaborations.

This made me laugh. Katy Perry makes catchy songs...but that's all they are. Beyonce has better songs than her, Beyonce can sing better than her, Beyonce can dance better than her. Beyonce can do pretty much everything better than her. Katy will never make anything that's iconic. I actually can't stand her and think she thinks she's a hell of a lot better than she actually is.

Well...this thread has been blown out of proportion!
Katy and RIhanna are gonna do a female empowerment anthem in the vein of Eurythmics/Aretha right? And she has basically said it wont be a song like when Bey and Shakira hooked up. My guess from that is, it will be pure fun old skool female anthem. Nothing more noting less. The irony is Bey and Shakira teaming up didnt result in eithers best works. Annie Lennox and Aretha didnt result in eithers best works IMO either (masive Eurythmics fan here...and it is true!) but both were solid...so i reckon this one will be a definite solid Pop song for todays Pop audience. I love Riri and like Katy so i reckon it will be massive anyway with their names in Pop today...plus i reckon it will be catchy infectious fun and they should do it while Perry is inbetween eras and Rihanna is in the TTT era
