Leona Lewis then Adele

I voted Beverley Knight as my best of what is mainly a somewhat poor bunch.*

I see my real favourite who can actually sing, isn't on the list - Annie Lennox - but perhaps she isn't seen as mainstream anymore.

*I stress this is my own opinion.

She'll be on the next big poll. I voted Bev too, I loved her as a kid, her and Gabrielle, and Jamelia. 3 leading ladies.

Is anyone else in this thread allowed to have an opinion other than "Alexandra Burke is the best british vocalist"?

I tried and soon gave up.

No one said that. But she is clearly a leading female UK vocalist.

I don't think she clearly is though. She's alright. One of the better X Factor contestants. That's it.

Well I guess you are entitled to your opinion....however misinformed it maybe.

I would understand it if she had a distinct or unique sounding voice, but then its hard to make out who's singing under all the autotune in "Elephant"...you know the programme employed by such vocal heavyweights like Britney, Rihanna and Katy Perry!

How is it misinformed? Come back to me when she is critically lauded and still around producing decent music in 10 years time.

She had one song with auto-tune and now you are making out like all her songs are robotic. I guess you haven't listened to any of her album at all then before making such statements.

I just don't understand the fuss and I think the bias towards her on this forum is not a true reflection of what is actually happening in the music industry today. Put it this way when we look back on this era, nobody will be making a programme about her, featuring famous talking heads gushing about her talent. She will fade.

There's no need to be rude with the faces. It does you no favours. At least try to discuss things without patronising people.

I don't think comparing Alexandra to Britney is very becoming either but there you go.

Very becoming doesn't make sense in the sentence you've just used. Very becoming would imply it's a reflection on me, as opposed to the artists in question. And I didn't even say it in the first place so maybe reread the posts.

You quoted a post I was directing to someone else, and my subsequent statement was in fact also referring to them and their comparison of Alexandra and Britney, so maybe you need to keep track of the discussion.

That was a slight dig but then its difficult to take this mess of a thread seriously when anyone who comes along to contribute with a differing opinion to the "AB is the best vocalist" is immediately shot down by one of her fans in a manner that would suggest they have just trespassed into the Alexandra Burke Appreciation thread. I get it, you're on the comedown from the highs of last week when she defied the odds in the charts and you want it to continue even though her song is dropping like a stone.

Personally I don't see anything special in her voice, her music does not sell on her voice but on the generic dance beats, her one single that relied on her voice to sell it (the ballad "The Silence") flopped and it baffles me why such a "great" vocalist should resort to the tactics of the vocally challenged on her new single from a new era. I don't care if it was just one song, I do not expect that from someone who is being touted as a great voice.

Good one continuing with the patronising. If you're an example of an Alexandra Burke fan then you're doing her no favours.

They both release primarily generic dance pop and use auto tune to disguise their voices...I think that's a fair comparison.

Although you are right it is a little off the mark, one is a cultural icon with 14 years in the industry under her belt and the other one won a reality TV show.

And therein lies the difference.

That's a bit narrow minded. Is she not allowed to branch out and experiment with different styles because she has a great voice?

The Silence didn't do that well because it was a 6th single from a 2x Platinum album....Syco didn't choose the right single, but she has plenty of other songs which show off her amazing vocal ability.

You're also not helping yourself by continuing to slam Alexandra yet complaining about her fans. That's like dousing a room in petrol then complaining about the fire when you drop the match.

Yes but Britney uses melodyne on all her songs and blatantly mimes all her performances. Alexandra used auto-tune on ONE song but pulls off amazing performances with live vocals, so no it's not really a fair comparison tbh.

You made the mistake, I don't think it's patronising to tell you so.
