Is anyone else in this thread allowed to have an opinion other than "Alexandra Burke is the best british vocalist"?
And it went off track, people starting harping on. I guess most of you don't tend to listen to a voice. It's not about the big moments, but the small ones, the tone, tessitura, beauty, emotion in the voice, versatility in the use of the voice. |

That's a bit narrow minded. Is she not allowed to branch out and experiment with different styles because she has a great voice?

The Silence didn't do that well because it was a 6th single from a 2x Platinum album....Syco didn't choose the right single, but she has plenty of other songs which show off her amazing vocal ability. So not agreeing with you that AB has a "great" voice means I'm slamming her. There's nothing wrong with thinking that she has a great voice if its to your taste, but putting down others opinions because they don't match yours is childish, and that's pretty much all this thread has become. You're also not helping yourself by continuing to slam Alexandra yet complaining about her fans. That's like dousing a room in petrol then complaining about the fire when you drop the match. I just stated why I don't think she has a "great" voice and I refuse to be bullied out of this thread because my opinion does not match the Alaxandra Burke brigade! |

They both release primarily generic dance pop and use auto tune to disguise their voices...I think that's a fair comparison.
Although you are right it is a little off the mark, one is a cultural icon with 14 years in the industry under her belt and the other one won a reality TV show. |

I'm not putting anyone down at all, in fact I'd say that you have been more belligerent by singling certain fans out and labelling them. All I've done in the thread is defend Alex fans who have been called 'ignorant' and 'p1ss takers' because they dared to vote for her. So I think you need to re-evaluate your arguments before playing the 'bullying' card because it's not working tbh. |

Your overuse of the faces adds nothing to the debate at all. There was no mistake made on my part, it was merely an afterthought to my highlighting your mistake on language. Which has been conveniently overlooked by you.

What I love about you guys is that in one line you say you're not trying to force the opinion that AB is better than everyone else, and then in the next line say there must be something fundamentally wrong with you and the way to listen to music if you don't think she's the best.
Do you understand the concept of having an opinion? Or subjectivity? I'm surprised you put anyone else in the poll, or did you not anticipate that Adele and Leona would come along like ants to your picnic? |

Don't make assumptions about my music taste. I don't need you to lecture me on the quality of vocals when my taste encompasses more than mainstream pop singers. My favourite female vocalists include Mama Cass, Debbie Harry, Janis Joplin, Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush, PJ Harvey and many more so I think I'm entitled to have an opinion on Alexandra Burkes singing. And using words like tessitura doesn't make your opinion any worthier than anyone elses.

No I was actually referring to your comment about 'Elephant dropping like a stone' which it isn't, it was an unnecessary comment considering you were saying that you felt attacked.

What irks me is that every time someone seems to suggest that they prefer someone over AB they've been shot down and had their opinions put down. Why bother with the thread when clearly this seems to have become an AB alter to her "greatness". My problem is in no way with her but with the way her fans have acted in this thread. |

I have no problem with people thinking she's a great vocalist, that's their opinion. No where in this thread have I said someone was wrong for thinking that...I've stated why I disagree but accept that we all have different opinions. Singing is an artform not a sport!

You say you don't want the thread being arsey but then you say things like that, implying that maybe not all of us listen to a voice in the right way. Implying that if you don't enjoy Alexandra Burke you must not be listening right. Just seemed an odd statement to make.

That's just it....you were markedly bellicose with your opinions calling her a 'karaoke singer' and comparing her to Britney. If you don't like her voice fair enough, but even you cannot deny that she has more talent than Britney. Your opinions were set out in a way which would only result in conflict as they were insulting, and then you went on to attack her fans when you didn't like the responses, so you aren't exactly helping your case.
As for the Britney thing, I personally find it hard to accept that any great vocalist would use the techniques of the pop fluff of their day to sell a song. It would be embrassing to think of someone like Ella Fitzgerald using the same recording techniques as someone like Marilyn Monroe. |

I wasn't talking about her specifically. I voted for her, Adele, Amy, Leona, Beverley, Lily and Joss and Katy B. I like the quiet moments over the big ones, the character and all. It was a general response.

I said in that video someone posted to my ears she sounded like a Kareoke singer...is that opinion not allowed?

It would be embrassing to think of someone like Ella Fitzgerald using the same recording techniques as someone like Marilyn Monroe. Again it was a stylistic effect on ONE song. She doesn't use it all the time, she doesn't rely on it, she can sing the song live, she's done acoustic versions and she only used it because it fitted the electronic sound of the song, I think it works quite well, if you don't that's your opinion, but it's very unfair of you to make out like she is relying on it in the same way Britney, Katy, Rihanna, Ke$ha etc all do... |

Where did I say it wasn't allowed? I just said that you should act so defensive when people respond to the way your comment was phrased.

I suppose, just like that one song Ella Fitzgerald did in the style of Marilyn Monroe...oh waitI think there are plenty of great vocalists around and none of them have used it on even one song. I've stated my opinion, its not the same as yours, you won't change it so accept it and move on. |

Perhaps. The has a great voice, but for me, when she's just singing quietly (besides Can't breathe) I don't find her voice interesting. She did have a lot of hype. She was the first from a singing competition who could really sing. Not to say she doesn't have a great voice overall though.

Apparently by having that opinion, in your words means I'm being agressive, when in fact that is my actual opinion, although according to you to have that opinion is an impossiblity and I only said it to start a fight!

Again I NEVER said that you can't have these views. At the end of the day I was only defending Alexandra's fans from being called 'ignorant' etc in the first place. |
