Of course we won't, there is no chance of us ever getting anywhere near the top, no matter who sings.

We have a one in twenty-five chance of winning. Just like everyone else in the final.

I've not supported the UK in Eurovision since 1982.

I'm hopeful because we have a sense of normality. But the fact we are on first might kill our chances since our song will more than likely be overpowered by the rest of the songs

Going on first is a big no no so I think a top 10 placing is the best Engelbert can hope for. |

the voting is only half phone votes half decided by the men in suits it's just too political blue had a great song last year.
And should have at least made the top 5 also the fact that we're first in the running order is bad. Has anyone ever won after being first in the eurovision?. I was hoping we'd be half way along jedward even though some hate them have a better chance than us. They are big in sweden and some other european countries. We won't win but would be good for a top ten place I was always surprised that jade ewan made the top 5. As I thought my time was dire I love eurovision I always look foward to greece apparently we always give them 12 points. |

The good thing about Engelbert is that we know he will deliver a solid live performance so at least it won't be embarrassing on that front. But will we win? No.

Each time we've been drawn first we've been top 4. Might be a bit of an ask this year but it's not an embarrassment. We can win again yet we haven't really entered a song that would win even if other countries entered it that find it easier. |

As a Capital Gold DJ said the other night "we could enter Elvis in his prime and still not win as all Europe hates us"
I actually think some British people get off on believing this falsehood that the rest of Europe hates. It's utter nonsense. The UK came fifth in the televote (if not in the overall vote) last year and the Andrew Lloyd Webber song entered three or four years ago made the top five in the overall vote. The reason we came last or near last a few times in recent years is because we entered crap songs by crap acts (Jemini? Scooch? If the rest of Europe hates the UK for anything (and hate is much too strong a word) it's because for the last 50 years we have produced some of the best pop music in the world, and yet when it comes to Eurovision we just don't seem to want to make the effort, and enter dross like Jemini and Scooch. |

Engelbert is well known so this could earn us some extra points this year and the song isn't bad. We might not win but we should get considerably more than nul points this year. |

I agree. It's because the contest is generally not well thought of this country. In other countries they send their best artists and try to send the best song they can.

When we send dross like Scooch/Jemini they know we are taking the mick. After all this country has always produced fantastic music and many worldwide stars.
Right now, people are complaining that the British public don't get to choose the song nor the singer any more. But the British public - who have proven year after year that they really could not choose a winning song if their lives depended on it - also chose Scooch to represent us. They also chose Jemini, and Andy Abraham, and Javine and everyone else who performed miserably. The problem is the majority of the British public just doesn't *understand* Eurovision. I've always argued that it's the X-Factor (no, not the show) which is important in Eurovision. There's always something which nobody predicted which helps a country win it. Sometimes it's a well known singer, singing a great song, which clinches it. Sometimes it's a well known singer singing a rubbish song. Sometimes, elaborate staging helps. Other times it's a stripped back acoustic performance which works. Sometimes some really TERRIBLE songs go Top 5 and leave some really great ones at the bottom of the leaderboard. Often, the best song of the night really is all you need. I think the UK's approach this year is an interesting one. You can't say the BBC is being safe and predictable this time, that's for sure. Apart from that awful running order draw - which is unlucky - and in spite of the fact that the song isn't exactly my cup of tea - I think we have one of the best chances we've had in a long long time. |
