I think in a normal year, UK would do decently with The Hump, but not good enough to win.

I'm afraid that this year, the contest is massively ballad-heavy, and The Hump's track just doesn't do enough to rise above that mediocrity.

Personally, I am not a ballad lover, so it does not excite me hugely...but could it be a grower? I'm not sure.

Will we do well? Europe hate us...so no. Going first isn't going to help either.

No, they don't. It's a lame and wildly inaccurate old excuse used by some "bad-loser" Brits.

If they truly hated us then the likes of Adele and Amy Winehouse wouldn't have sold so well there. They only hate us (or to be more precise, don't vote for us) us when we enter crap songs like that one from two years ago written by your idol, Pete Waterman.

I think we have a good chance this year but I think the Russians might beat us

I wonder if Englebert is aware that these day the UK usually end up near the bottom of the pack - last year was the highest we've come in years

Low blow mate. Ok, it wasn't his finest moment...but please don't write off his whole back catalogue based on one song!

Apologies. It wasn't meant as a low blow. I didn't like the song and was aware you were a fan of PW so mentioned that fact. Could have phrased it better I suppose, and could have included it with a mention of the Scooch and Jemini songs, which were just as bad if not worse than the Josh Dubovie song (imo), but I'd already mentioned them in a previous post.

I certainly wasn't writing off Waterman's entire back catalogue. Some of the songs he wrote back in the eighties, while not being my cup of tea, were songs I think that could have done well in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Are you forgetting about Jade Ewen, 5th in 2009?

Oh I was aware of what you were up to...but apology accepted.

I have to say, I do love the Scooch (Mike Stock were behind them originally) track, Flying The Flag (I have various remixes somewhere...better than the radio edit version)...but the Jemini track (non PW) was truly aweful...especially as they were out of tune!

Re: the UK's 2012 entrant...it could be a grower...who knows. Personally, it doesn't do a lot for me as I don't really do ballads. I like my music pop/dance between 120-130 bpm.

I think the song is a nice ballad but nothing amazing. It will probably do fairly well but probably won't win as it's nothing spectacular, imo. But who knows? As for those saying 'we never win anyway' - well why SHOULD we win? We're not entitled to win, especially with some of the tripe songs we've entered in recent years! Some countries have NEVER won the contest in it's entire history, other countries have only won once - we've won 5 times, which isn't bad going!
