What's the best smoked salmon I can buy locally?
I've just become really addicted to smoked salmon and cream cheese as a late night snack after buying some prepacked ones from Sainsburys.
I watched that country kitchen programme last week which went on about whisky smoked salmon. Is this the best as I don't know? I bought some John West stuff and it was really rubbery and not very nice. I don't really know which type of smoked salmon to go for but at the same time I don't really want to spend a fortune when i'm having it with cheese as I feel that perhaps the really good stuff might be a waste of money. I've been having it with the black pepper philli as well as the grilled pepper philli. I don't have a morrissons near me but I hear they have a good reputation for fresh fish so wondered if they did anything worth buying and which is the best one to buy without going too overboard on price. Also can anyone recommend a tipple to go with it? Currently i'm enjoying it with a small glass of Glayva liquor as I don't really like neat whisky or a slightly sweet Chardonay. Not really sure what is meant to compliment it perfectly. |

I'd say that you should be looking for a local fishmonger or deli or try one of the 'posher' supermarkets such as M&S or Waitrose.
You'll be able to get good stuff online but obviously will cost quite a bit. |

You won't get 'fresh' smoked salmon on a counter - it needs to be packed up to stop it drying out. The restaurants you might have had it at either smoked it themselves, or bought it in prepacked. Try m and s, they're usually good.

I bought some delicious hot smoked salmon the other week and came on here for tips as to how to finish it off. It was a big pkt and no use to you as I bought it at a small, local supplier. It was yummy though.
I've also had smoked salmon which is packed for M & S and that's very nice too. |

Try the smoked salmon and salmon gravlax from Aldi if you want to pig out on the stuff but not blow your budget.
