well what a totally underwhelming week!! perhaps billy joel songs are more difficult to sing than i thought!! I enjoyed erika i have to admit but im sure she will be in trouble again

Heejun - WTH thats all i can say! if there is any justice he will be going home but we know there is no way he will!!

Deandre is defiintely in trouble this week, he was first, his vocals were shaky!! I think hes been thrown under a but this week

If there is any justice at all then Heejun has to go, Steven was right last night when he said that Heejun wasnt taking the competition seriously! Although i think it probably has more to do with the fact that he feels a bit deflated and has had enough;

Deandre was worse than i thought, as was Hollie; she really was all over the place but i think her previous weeks performances will pull her through

Erika, jessica and Colton were still my top 3, Coltons studio version is beautiful

Hehe, now I understand what that S.O thing was there

1. Elise: best of the night for me (so was last week) ... a couple of moments she sounded like she's trying to impersonate Janis Joplin (or others maybe) rather than being herself, but still the best of the night.
2. Philip Before live shows, Philip for me was the Thriller song he did in audition. I was like no matter what he's singing he sounds the same. But in the last 2 shows he proved me wrong and last night he Philip Philipsed the song
3. Jessica OK, but not her best.
4. Erika OK, I guess I agree with it being a little boring
5. Colton It was a good performance, not deserving all the praise though IMO. And I think Steven gave him the compliment because of being harsh on him last week. I really want this guy to rock and every time I say maybe next week and it just doesn't happen nothing extraordinary. I think he needs to do something like a Muse song.
6. JoshuaGood compared to rest of competitors, but compared to his past performances it wasn't that good.
7. Skylar She gives it all in her performances and it's exciting to watch her, though not great performance last night, but still OK.
8. DeandreHis was also OK, but maybe not good enough to get him out of the trouble zone. (He stood out of falsetto the whole song for the first time right? )
9. Hollie I love Hollie and she's one of my favorites, but she had a really poor performance.
10. Heejun I agree about Heejun. I want to see him go. Taking off the vocal, his performance was exciting and funny, but vocals were the worst and very awful. He has a lot of fans though, so probably (read unfortunately) he won't go, but I'd be happy to see him at least in bottom 3.

I haven't seen them all yet but just watched Colton on Youtube. I think it was the absolute perfect song for him. Loved it!

The only performance I really liked was Colton. The second best was Hollie even if it was a weaker night for her, I enjoy her voice.

Everybody else was kind of boring. It probably didn't help that I'm not a fan of Billy Joel and don't really know his songs.

Deandre. I thought this was quite a bit better than other reviewers seem to think, the only thing going against him was he was on 'forgettable first'. Another uptempo number with little (or in this case no) falsetto, which should appeal to more viewers (overuse of the falsetto will polarise them).

Hollie. For me, dreadful. Take away the Celine/Whitney karaoke and this is what you're left with. She always looks and sounds like someone's grandmother. I'm long over the "OMG such a big voice from a diminutive frame!" thing, and just regard her as very dated and unmarketable. Her voice in places reminded me of early 80s Sheena Easton.

Colton. He fancies himself as a hard rocker but he doesn't have the big raspy voice. When he sings lower and breathier like he did this week, it suits him. His phrasing throughout this song really reminded me of Bono, I wonder if he's one of his heroes.

Elise. I felt she was the only one who really got into the Billy Joel vibe, in so much as if you were unfamiliar with the song you may have guessed it was one of his. Shame she hasn't built a fanbase, I'm not sure anything she could do would keep her out of the bottom 3. Dead meat.

Erika. A much stronger performance from her. She started off this series clearly being told/was steered towards not duplicating Elise as the 'older' rock chic, so sang demure ballads while dressed like someone in a wine bar. Now Elise is on the ropes she's been allowed to be herself. She isn't as talented a singer as Elise, but tonally her voice is thicker and more suited to a rockier feel (I feel Elise is more of a jazz singer trying to do rock).

Heejun. I have to confess the novelty wore off with this season's comedy character a long time ago. He doesn't even have big hair, and is nowhere near as entertaining as Normund Gentle, especially with 'cowboy' gone. His was always the last rickey.org file I watched (rickey.org seems to have them up before anyone else, and even allows you to download mp3s) www.rickey.org. But this week I have declined watching him, so he was either brilliant or crap, I don't know, or care!

Jessica. There's rarely any feeling in her singing, it's more about technical ability, at which she is astounding for 16. A sort of IdOlympics contestant. I guess she needs to live a little to know what it is she's singing about. But this was a return to technical strength for her.

Joshua. Another solid performance from the most consistently strong contestant, but the song was a bit meh for him and shackled him in. Still, the more restrained performance might win new fans - not everyone is going to warm to an OTT gospel singer, as incredible as his pipes may be.

Phillip A stronger performance from him. He is the one that reeks 'artiste' more than the others. A blood & guts singer with a pained delivery. Women will fancy him and men will want to sing/communicate like him.

Skylar. Another consistent performance. She and Deandre are the competition's two dark horses IMO because they are both so young and yet so versatile, with crossover potential - which is always good, not only for increased sales, but if you fail in one genre a record label may give you a second chance in another.

Bottom 3 prediction Heejun, Erika and Elise (the latter only because she obviously hasn't been building a fan base).

1. Colton - goosies! The song truly was perfect for him.

2. Elise - loved the performance. When her voice breaks a little on the high notes, I love it even more. Hope she now gains the support she deserves
3. Philip - his take on this classic song was fabulous. Nothing bad to say
4. Skylar - I like Skylar, not her best performance, still stellar from Skylar
5. Jessica - yes her voice is fantastic, yet to feel she's not just a voice though?
6. Joshua - another solid effort from Joshua. Nothing more to say.
7. Erika - I'm an Erika fan and while I liked her new hairstyle, I can't say the same about the performance.
8. Deandre - it was a typical Deandre performance; boring and predictable
9. Hollie - blah! Normally solid, this week didn't seem to be comfortable in her own skin. If she's out this week though I'll be very disappointed
10. Heejun - such a great voice during the audition process. Obviously not a talent that transfers to the live shows?

I can only think of a handful of Billy Joel songs I like (and only two of them were played tonight) but I actually enjoyed this weeks performances more than last (and I love Stevie Wonder).

Standouts
Phillip - love that he ignored the mentors (and that others did too), loved his voice, loved his performance. His best so far
Elise - Would have been my favourite had it not been for the run at the end
Jessica - best vocal of the night but didn't love the song

Also good
Skylar - started poorly (possibly because they made her walk round to the stage) but ended great (when she finally got on it). She is still my favourite
Colton - nice job but I didn't feel he changed much to a song that pretty much fitted him like a glove
Erika - classy but lacked wow. Liked the new image - have the producers been watching idology?

Not good but not bad
Heejun - I enyoyed his performance and vocally I didn't think he was all that bad. I wouldn't mind him being around for a couple more weeks but worry it will be at the expense of someone who could go far
Joshua - real come down after last week. Was ok in parts, painful in others
Hollie - inconsistent and yet another ballad from her (yawn). I'm not that keen on her tone but its her song choices that are really turning me against her
DeAndre - I zoned out half way through it. Forgetful song and performance. I expect him to be in the bottom three and he'd be my choice to go

My favourite was Philip. I don't think he's ever going to have a bad week, unless they make him sing Britney or *NSYNC! He knows who he is, and he does that every week. And really Tommy Hilfiger? People will stop voting for him because he wears grey?! :yawn:

There's something about Colton, not sure what it is but I can't really warm to him, but thought he was good this week too. I didn't think Hollie was as bad as the judges, or some on here have made out either. Wasn't a fan of the song choice, but thought she was ok.

My least favourite was Deandre.

My favourite was Erika. I taped the show and watched her performance back 20 times yesterday! Can't believe it was her last because IMO it was by far her best. It was in the right key for her and she seemed more comfortable with it than other songs she's performed. I thought she might turn a corner and stand a chance of progressing quite far atter that, but she performed too early on in the show. I would definitely have used the save on her though. A performance like that is not an accident - if she can do it once, she can definitely do it again!

Yes, though she wasn't my favourite, I quite liked Erika. I could think of at least 4 others I'd sooner had gone before her. Maybe Jimmy was right and the sudden change in hair colour confused viewers, making her seem like a new unknown contestant, because it was a solid enough vocal, and she was very confident. She was always a much tidier singer than Elise, who is otherwise excellent but tends to wailingly fall apart on the power stuff (she did it again this week, but redeemed herself with the run at the end).

There's been a lot of duplication this series; similar acts who split the vote. For example two petite young girls with big voices which bely their physical size, Hollie and Jessica. Two good looking young 'rockers' competing for the female vote, Colton and Phillip. And then there were two older rock chics, Elise and Erika.

When the clone goes the remaining contestant should inherit some of their votes, so now Erika's gone Elise may inherit her votes and 'do a Haley'....

I was hoping it'd go the other way and Erika would inherit votes from Elise's fans and do a Haley lol - although I'm not a Haley fan myself, I would have liked to see Erika finish as high as 3rd. I'm not a fan of Elise either. The fact that Elise can sing well in parts and then completely loses it (reminding me of myself when I sing with a sore throat) does not IMO justify her place on the show when other contestants can sing equally well and don't have that moment where they fall apart.

I would say that Phillip, Deandre, Elise and particularly Heejun and Skylar are weaker than Erika vocally. Hollie's quite evenly matched but I would say Erika could develop into a more interesting artist. Jessica, Joshua and Colton have been more consistent than Erika, and I would like to see Jessica or Joshua win, but I still preferred Erika on Thursday!

I always thought Erika had the potential to deliver an amazing performance, and became frustrated that she was only delivering good performances - but as soon as she delivered an amazing performance, she was ousted!

I think that her hair revamp is less likely to have played a part in her departure than the order in which the acts performed. After all, they made it clear that all contestants were getting makeovers, and mentioned Erika's name as well as flashing it up on the screen, so no one will genuinely have believed that she wasn't the same person. I know everyone has to take their turn performing first/second but on Whitney night, Erika performed early on. She also did so on Top 12 girls' night. It was obvious that Colton would get the pimp slot on Billy Joel night, but if Erika had been the penultimate performer, I reckon she'd still be in the competition. I thought Deandre would leave - not only was he on first, but his performance was a bit forgettable. Ideally, Skylar would go, but for some reason she seems popular so I would have settled for Heejun

Erika had a good performance last week, though I don't think it was the best of the night and she wasn't consistent overall IMO. But I think she deserved to be in the competition more than some like Heejun, Deandre or Skylar.

As for Elise for me she has been numero uno in tha last two weeks. I think she has more control over her voice than anybody else (but Joshua). Even when she did "I'm Your Baby Tonight" (and had pitch problem a couple of times) and got all the criticism, it was much better/less pitchy than Hollie's "Power Of Love" with all that praise. She just doesn't have that of a look.

As for Philip, I like him, he's been very consistent, he knows exactly who he is and last week it was his best performance IMO, but vocally he's not even close to Joshua, Elise or Jessica. I could say the same for Colton.

Anyway I'm hoping we'll get rid of Heejun, Deandre and Skylar soon. That'd sad if Elise doesn't make the top 5 and I'll be rooting for her
