how to let my blu ray see files on laptops

Hi all

my blu ray player connects to my router by ethernet and thence to the internet.

I have a laptop that connects wirelessly to the router

the bluray has a facility to find and play files on my home network (a server, does that equate to a laptop?) but at the moment sees nothing there

what more do i need do so that it can access files on the laptop (if indeed that is possible)?

Thanks!

You may need to run a media server programme on your laptop. Firstly you need to share any folders you wish to see on the blu-ray (right click and choose sharing).

Try

Works with other kit (especially Sony) not just PS3's.

Sharing of this type is usually done using DLNA.

Windows 7 (which I'm assuming your laptop is running) has this facility but you probably need to activate it.

Some instructions can be found at

You simply set Media Player on the laptop to share the files - it's dead easy.

Under Windows 7 there's a menu tab 'Steam', but normally you would have been asked during installation, and if you accepted streaming then it's already set.

yos under the streaming tab in windows media player you need to check 'automatically allow devices to play my media'

then anything in the media library on your computer should appear.

that is of course assuming you are running windows 7 and have a dlna capable blu ray player. which would be easier to verify if you had given some clues.

I like that Nigel. 'Steam' option for Windows 7. Explains why it's so slow.

Works fine from XP and Vista as well, although the option isn't labelled 'stream'.

thnks for the reply - i kept it simple. one never knows what is too much or too little info, only the responder knows that

its a sony s380 plasyer and the laptop runs vista, hoping you/ the other responders gave enough info for me to get it to work, thanks to all again

Just set them as shared in Media Player, same as videos - you don't need to have Media Player running to watch them either.

On Vista it's under Library/Media Sharing, and you can add access for specific external devices.
