Just because you or those you talked to do not consider it worth upgrading if you have an iPhone 4, does not make it the case for everybody.

The iPad is well established now so a mid device phone is a possibility. It is obvious that Apple will aim to maintain sales by expanding its range.

What happens with the dedicated crowd is that they rubbish anything that appears as 'me too'.
Of course on the day it is released/confirmed it 'changes everything'.

For a smartphone 3.5" in this period in time is paltry and inadequate. Besides I'd be surprised if Apple didn't move on from the 4S design. They need to design a new case and bump the screen size tbh.

The notification system is something I thought was great on android and was glad it was added on iOS.

I think most people would want a screen size increase as long as the phone doesn't end up massive like the Galaxy Nexus.

Like the other poster I was just making a general observation. I have a Galaxy Nexus and it's thinness makes up for the larger screen size.

I think the iPhone could benefit from being the same size as the Galaxy S/Galaxy S2...however ironic that may be.

My apologies but I would hate the idea of a larger screen.

I guess that wouid depend on how pedantic you are I would guess .. but for certain when it comes to screen size iphone users on here have rubbished nearly evrything with a bigger size especially the s2 ... I could name names but that would be mean as they wont be able to buy the i5 if it has bigger screen

Going back to the thread with my serious hat. If apple did introduce a larger screen it would play havoc with the accessory market which does, I dare say, make a difference for people looking to buyt a new phone.

Like the display the colours are way off. Its not bad but it is not one of the best at all.

The nexus is hardly massive.

The S2 for instance is about 2mm bigger than the iphone yet packs a screen much bigger and better. Apple insist on huge black or white bezels on their products.

The nexus and the S2 are both lighter and thinner.

Samsung Galaxy S2:
126.3mm (+11.1) x 66.1mm (+7.44) x 8.49mm (-0.81)

Galaxy Nexus:
135.5mm (+20.3) x 67.94mm (+9.28) x 8.94mm (-0.36)


I'm not saying the S2 or the Nexus are too big, necessarily, but there is quite a difference in size between them and the iPhone.

Couple of thoughts on the matter:

Progress has been made in terms of thickness, moreso with the S2 than the Nexus. It isn't all that long ago that Apple were advertising the iPhone as the world's thinnest smartphone, but it doesn't seem that slim these days. Presumably, bigger height and width allows manufacturers to reduce the thickness somewhat, as well as incorporating a bigger screen.

My brother's S2 seems a bit too big for me, but that's probably only because it's not what I'm used to. If it were my phone, I'm sure I would get used to it very quickly. For me, though, the footprint of the Nexus is too big, and I wouldn't like to see the iPhone rise to these proportions.

s2 1cm bigger for best part of an inch bigger screen well worth it. once you've used bigger screen you'd never go back believe me

Well no, it wasn't. The thoughts on the matter were "the popup notifications are complete bullshit, we need something better. Apple chose the pull down notification tray and I'm glad they did, it was always I feature I liked on Android.


Who says? Its paltry and inadequate for you perhaps, but for some of us the size is pretty good. It fits into pockets, can use it with one hand comfortably, and I don't really see what I'll gain from a bigger screen. More spacing between icons?!
