There's one in Stafford, I think I went to it once about 10 years ago. I can't remember it being anything remarkable.

I keep meaning to drag my friends there as for some reason it popped up in conversation a while ago!

Sadly, the last time I visited Brighton it had gone, it's not listed on their site anymore either. I smiled at your description of the 'painfully trendy veggie' Terre a Terre one of my favourite ever restaurants - not a veggie lasagne or cheese omlette in sight. Very pricey, I went there for a special birthday and really loved it. Strictly for very special occasions.

Do you live in Brighton? If so, have you been to Days in the old cinema at the end of East Street - it is a buffet and the choice is unbelievable. Then of course there is the good old Brighton institution Donatellos - I can't go past there at Christmas without having my photo taken with the huge mechanical bear outside.

I have to say, that Brighton is just about the best place I have ever been for good vegetarian food at all levels from the all you can eat Indian Veggie Buffet - 2 for £8 if you go off peak - to the outrageous Terre a Terre where a bill of £100 would not be difficult.

I have just spent 10 minutes on Google maps looking for the Wimpy, but sadly can't see it there. When I used to go it was huge, and went all the way back to the Old Steine so you could go in either end. There was one on West Street as well, over a pub, I didn't like that one because there was always either a fight or someone throwing up on the stairs!

There's still a Wimpy's in Southgate in North London. I pop in sometimes, the staff are friendly, and recognise me.

Right, as soon as the one in town is open again after a refurb, I am going in, it's been AGES since I have had a Wimpy.

I live near Brighton & could have sworn the Wimpy was still there! Maybe I need to clean my glasses!! Terre A Terre does have good food but the staff are so condescending and up themselves it put me off going. Indian Summer (in the same street) does fantastic Indian veggie food (and meat/fish too) and that's a favourite.

Donatello's does a ridiculously cheap set menu, so I tend to avoid it, it's always packed out with office parties and suchlike,
