How much steak could you eat?

On Man v Food the guy ate a 72oz steak.

Last night my mate ate 28oz and staid he could eat another standard 8oz steak.

Last week another mate ate 33oz of steak, fat & grissle, with chips, peas and mushrooms and now says he wants to try for 40oz.
He's a freak though. Skinny little bstard.

I'm a big guy but I struggle with a 12oz. I do like my steak with sides though. Chips, salad, veg etc.

I've eaten 48oz of steak and could have definitely done more, had I had more steak

Wasn't with any sides though!

Managed to down a 32oz Steak + fries + peppercorn sauce + sides in the States. To say I was slightly stuffed is an understatement. One of the guys who was with us though, well that greedy sod decided to stay and have dessert too. I thought I had hollow legs, but he was an eating machine.

When someone does these eating challenges, do they starve themselves for a couple of days beforehand ?

My OH had a 33oz steak at a restaurant a couple of weeks ago, plus chips and salad, and he'd had a starter beforehand. It was a T-bone, though, so not all of it was meat, but I was still astonished that he could fit it in! He's a slow eater too and I got fed up of sitting there watching him eat, having polished off my 8oz steak ages before.

I don't think so - on Man V Food I think he says not to starve as it makes it harder to eat as his stomach starts to shrink?

According to Adam Richman (and Bourdain in relation to tasting menus), the key is for about 12-24 hours before, don't eat but drink lots of water. That way, your stomach is empty but has also not contracted (as it would do if you just didn't eat).

I have a similar problem with large steaks. I've done a 32oz t-bone before a few times. Its too hot to immediately start eating and gets too hot by the time you get to the last few difficult bites.

Going back a few years now but was shopping with partner and butcher had 5lb of steak for f few pounds a lot cheaper to buy it this way,

Anyway once back home and ready to put the food away it came to the steak where i said to by partner i was hoping to freeze some of it but i could eat this in one sitting as there doesn't seem to be much, Her look

She says bet you can't i said cook it for when i get back from work and i'll have chips with it,

She dished it up and i sat there and ate the lot, Now i've never turned it to ounces before now but after doing so and at the time my weight was 9 stone.

See what you mean.

I meant I left the baked potato and the side salad and the veg etc etc.

We had a big discussion / argument about this last night. Talked about taking the two of them to my local butcher and getting him to cut them a hunk of 40oz steak each.

We also talked about rules and regulations, getting everything the same weight, does fat & grissle have to be eaten etc.

They said they're up for it in a couple of weeks. Mind you, that's if they decide on a venue and can afford to buy the actual steak.
